Bandai HG 1/144 Bokata's Gelgoog - GQuuuuuuX Series

Bandai HG 1/144 Bokata's Gelgoog - GQuuuuuuX Series

Bokata's Gelgoog is an ace pilot custom from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, bringing the classic Gelgoog frame into the GQ era with modern proportions, updated engineering, and Bokata's personal combat philosophy stamped all over it. The Gelgoog has always been one of Zeon's most capable mobile suits, and the GQ redesign sharpens that further. Bokata's custom configuration pairs the beam naginata's reach advantage with a balanced defensive loadout, making this one of the more tactically interesting Zeon ace kits in the GQuuuuuuX lineup.

Bokata's Gelgoog features the GQ-era redesign of the classic Gelgoog frame with updated proportions and articulation, armed with the signature beam naginata polearm weapon and shield for a distinctive ace pilot combat display.

This kit is designed for beginner to intermediate builders. The snap-fit system means no glue is required, and Bokata's custom colour scheme is achieved through part moulding without painting. It pairs naturally with Sugai's Gelgoog for a two-ace Gelgoog display, and sits alongside the broader GQuuuuuuX Zeon forces lineup for a complete faction shelf.

What Makes This Kit Special

  • Ace Pilot Custom Configuration: Bokata's personalised Gelgoog setup reflects his individual combat philosophy, distinct from both the standard Gelgoog and Sugai's custom.
  • Beam Naginata: Signature polearm weapon giving reach advantage in combat poses, a distinctive armament choice that sets this kit apart from beam rifle-equipped Zeon suits.
  • GQ Redesign: Modern proportions and updated joint engineering applied to the classic Gelgoog frame for improved articulation and shelf presence.
  • Shield Included: Defensive equipment for balanced combat display options.
  • Custom Colour Scheme: Bokata's personal livery achieved through colour-separated parts, no painting required.
  • Multiple Hand Parts: For weapon-holding and expressive posing options.
  • Snap-Fit Assembly: No glue required. Beginner-friendly build with clean part separation.

Builder Notes

The Gelgoog gets a confident modern redesign in the GQuuuuuuX line, and Bokata's custom stands out even in a strong lineup. The lead wire gimmick is the one element that needs planning before you start. Get that right and the rest of the build is smooth.

Lead Wire Routing (Most Important Build Step): The included lead wire simulates the external cable runs on Bokata's unit and is the standout feature of this kit. Lead wire creases permanently if bent sharply or repositioned repeatedly. Plan your routing path before threading the wire through the relevant limb or body cavity during assembly. Route it while the section is still open and unarmoured — doing it after the surrounding armour is fitted is significantly harder and risks kinking the wire. Trim any excess with a sharp blade rather than nippers. Nippers will crimp the cut end flat and leave a visible, untidy termination.

Lead Wire Connection Points: The ports where the wire terminates are small and stress-sensitive. Handle them during assembly without pulling on the wire itself. Once the wire is seated and routed, leave it in place. It is a display feature, not an articulation point, and repeated adjustments will loosen the connection.

Dual Saber Mounting Pegs: The HG-exclusive gimmick allows beam sabers to mount on both the top and bottom of the unit's mounting points. These double-mount pegs are small and take more stress than a single-mount arrangement. Fit the sabers gently. If you plan to display the saber-armed configuration, set it once during the build and leave it rather than swapping repeatedly.

Marking Stickers (Line-Wide Issue): As with other GQuuuuuuX kits, the marking stickers are thin with limited tolerance for repositioning. Apply each with tweezers in a single motion. A thin coat of Mr. Mark Setter on the plastic surface first helps them sit flat against the Gelgoog's layered panel line detail without lifting at the edges.

Mono-Eye Lens: Standard GQuuuuuuX Gelgoog mono-eye — adjustable track mechanism with a small sticker applied to the clear dome. Centre it on the first contact. Repositioning after initial placement will wrinkle it.

Stability Rating: 8/10. The Gelgoog's proportions and broad base keep it stable on display. The movable rear thrusters add visual mass without shifting the centre of gravity enough to cause problems. Static poses hold without an Action Base. Extended dynamic poses with the beam naginata held across the body are best supported by an Action Base 4 for long-term display.

The Fixes: Route the lead wire during assembly before armour plates are fitted, not after. Trim wire ends with a blade. Apply Mr. Mark Setter before any marking sticker. Set the dual saber mounts in your preferred position during the build and leave them there.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these Gunpla kits the hottest sellers?

These kits are fan favourites for their detailed design, affordability, and build size, offering a balanced and enjoyable building experience.

Are these hottest seller kits suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Especially the HG kits, which are known for their fewer parts and simplicity, making them a great starting point for new builders.

What is the level of detail in the MG and RG hottest sellers?

MG kits boast a detailed inner frame and additional parts, while RG combines MG’s complexity with HG’s size for an intricate, compact build.

Can I get replacement parts if I lose some during the build?

Yes, if you buy a kit from Gundam Express Australia we will source replacement parts for you. This is not a quick process as parts need to come from Bandai in Japan.

How much space will I need to display these Gunpla?

HG and RG Gundam kits are compact, while MG Gundam are larger but still manageable. You won’t need too much space to showcase these masterpieces beautifully.
