Builder Notes

Challia's Rick Dom is a recent release with limited community build documentation at the time of writing. The notes below cover what is confirmed for this kit specifically. A full update is planned once broader builder feedback has accumulated.

Sticker Sheet Handling: The GQuuuuuuX line uses a thinner sticker stock than most HG releases, and Challia's kit is no exception. Peeling at an angle tears the sticker before it lifts cleanly. Use a sharp-tipped tweezer or toothpick to get under the corner of each sticker and lift perpendicularly before transferring. Apply a coat of Mr. Hobby Mr. Super Clear Gloss over any stickers on high-contact surfaces to anchor the edges and prevent peeling over time.

Lead Wire for the Electromagnetic Hook: The kit includes a lead wire for the electromagnetic hook gimmick. Route the wire during assembly before the surrounding armour panels are closed — trying to thread it through afterwards causes permanent kinking. Trim excess wire with a sharp blade rather than blunt nippers. The wire creases permanently once bent hard, so plan the final wire path before committing to a trim length.

Third Rear Leg Transformation Joint: The third rear leg switches between a ground stabiliser and space thruster configuration on a hinged joint at its base. The joint is designed to fold along a specific arc. Twisting it laterally rather than following that arc is the most likely way to stress it. Follow the transformation sequence in the manual rather than free-handing the movement.

Stability Rating: Pending. The Dom's wide, low stance suggests solid standing stability, but a reliable rating requires more builder reports on this specific kit. An Action Base 4 is recommended for any pose with the bazooka raised or the third leg in thruster configuration.

The Fixes: Lift sticker sheet pieces perpendicularly and seal with Mr. Hobby Mr. Super Clear Gloss. Route the lead wire before closing surrounding armour and trim with a blade. Follow the manual for the third rear leg transformation.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
