Aila's butterfly Qubeley from Gundam Build Fighters
The Bandai 1/144 HGBF Qubeley Papillon is Aila Jyrkiäinen's Gunpla from Gundam Build Fighters. Team Nemesis, a private Gunpla team based in Finland, built it for the world tournament around Aila's skill with remote-controlled funnel weapons. It takes the classic Qubeley and reworks it with huge sweeping shoulder binders and a teal and pink colour scheme.
This is HGBF kit number 11, first released by Bandai in February 2014. It suits Build Fighters fans and anyone who wants a Qubeley that looks nothing like the one already in your collection.
Build difficulty
This is a snap-fit High Grade with eight runners and no glue needed. Bandai rates it for ages 8 and over, and builders describe the assembly as easy going. Most of the outer armour is new, but the torso, shoulder joints and upper arms carry over from the original HGUC Qubeley, so it builds and moves like an older kit. The part that takes patience is the stickers, because the pink markings and the eyes are all done with stickers.
Technical highlights
The armour is moulded in colour, with teal outer panels over purple, pink and grey details. The pink flame markings come from the included hologram sticker sheet rather than separate parts, and no paint is needed to finish the kit. The shoulder binders are the headline. Each one moves independently, so you can spread them wide like wings or sweep them back. The head and binders reposition for a flight pose, all ten funnels lift out of the rear container, and the chest cockpit hatch opens.
What makes this kit special
-
Oversized shoulder binders: each binder moves on its own, which gives the Papillon its butterfly silhouette.
-
Ten removable funnels: every funnel in the rear container comes out, so you can lay them out for display.
-
Lance Bit: a long lance that can also be held like a rifle.
-
Flight pose: the head and binders reposition for a flying display on the included stand.
-
Display stand included: the stand can be rearranged to change the display angle.
-
Opening cockpit hatch: the chest hatch moves to show the cockpit.
-
A different take on the Qubeley: new head, binders, skirts and legs make it look like a completely different suit from the Zeta-era original.

What to watch for
Drawing on builder reviews and community threads (r/Gunpla, YouTube reviews, and Japanese and Korean hobby blogs):
-
Lots of stickers: the pink markings and the eyes are stickers, not separate coloured parts. Several builders felt the stickers look flat and chose to paint the markings instead.
-
Older base kit: the torso, shoulder joints and upper arms come from the original HGUC Qubeley, so the build and the joints feel older than a modern HG.
-
Some markings not on the sheet: one reviewer noted the sticker sheet leaves the pink markings on the rear skirt and legs uncovered, so those need paint if you want them to match the promo photos.
-
Head movement: one reviewer found the head could not turn to the side, while another was happy with the neck movement. Worth knowing if you plan a lot of head-turned poses.
Builder tips: apply the stickers with tweezers so they sit straight on the curved binders. A fine brush or paint marker in a matching pink covers any markings the sheet does not. Bandai's own promotional photos show a painted sample, so expect the out-of-box look to rely on stickers.
Build notes
No glue needed. A pair of nippers, a hobby knife for cleaning up nub marks and a pair of tweezers for the stickers are all you need. Painting is optional, since the kit is moulded in colour and the fine markings are stickers. Bandai rates it for ages 8 and over.
