Athrun's redemption mech, the SEED Freedom upgrade of the original Infinite Justice
The Infinite Justice Gundam Type II is Athrun Zala's mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the 2024 film that closes the Cosmic Era. Built around the same lineage as the original ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice from SEED Destiny, the Type II carries Athrun's redesigned silhouette into the climactic battles alongside Kira Yamato's Mighty Strike Freedom.
The kit is for SEED Freedom collectors who want the Athrun half of the Kira-Athrun pair, and for builders who want to see what Bandai has done with the latest SEED Action System inside an HG frame.
Build difficulty
HG 1/144 snap-fit with the new SEED Action System internal structure. Bandai rate it age 8 and over. Mecha Express tags it both beginner and intermediate. The kit carries more parts and articulation than a basic HG, but the SEED Action System is engineered to be intuitive once the manual is followed. Expect 3 to 4 hours at a relaxed pace for a clean snap, longer if you panel line or apply the lead-wire anchor stickers carefully. No glue. No paint required.
Technical highlights
The headline is the SEED Action System: a specialised internal structure designed to hold the film's iconic poses, with a pivot axis added to the legs for the graceful leg flexibility seen in the SEED Freedom action scenes. The backpack carries four individually movable wings with beam effect parts on each, and the whole pack detaches for solo display. Silver parts use a Real Metallic Gloss Injection material for a built-in metallic finish without paint. The beam shield houses a beam boomerang that removes for hand display, and a lead wire is included to replicate the anchor's launching state. Head-mounted effect parts let you push the action customisation further.
What makes this kit special
-
SEED Action System. Specialised internal frame engineered to hold the film's iconic SEED poses, including leg pivot axes for the graceful articulation seen on screen.
-
Four individually movable wings. Each backpack wing moves independently and ships with a beam effect part. The pack detaches for solo display.
-
Real Metallic Gloss Injection silver parts. Built-in metallic finish on the silver detailing, no paint needed.
-
Beam boomerang gimmick. Stored inside the beam shield, removable to hold in hand for the film-accurate throw pose.
-
Lead wire for the anchor. Reproduces the launching-anchor pose with a flexible wire connecting the anchor to the suit.
-
Head effect parts. Attachable head detail for SEED-mode action poses.

Compatible kits and accessories
This is a mobile suit kit, not an accessory. The Infinite Justice Type II uses the standard 3 mm back-mount socket, so it pairs with the standard Bandai action base system.
No display base is included with the kit. For dynamic poses or for displaying the detached backpack solo, pair the Infinite Justice Type II with the Bandai Action Base 2, the standard 1/144 display stand. SEED Action System poses generally need a base because the kit's leg pivot axes don't always hold the centre of gravity unsupported.

What to watch for
Independent reviews flag the SEED Freedom HG range as carrying a higher price point than older HGs, but the SEED Action System and Real Metallic Gloss Injection finish justify the step up. No significant build weaknesses flagged on the Type II specifically.
Builder Tips. A black or dark grey panel line marker brings out the angular armour seams without dirtying the silver injection panels. The lead wire for the anchor pose reads better with a careful matte coat to take the wire's sheen down. The beam boomerang reads well displayed in flight against the kit's body rather than just held in hand. The backpack wings can sag slightly with the full beam effect parts attached, so an Action Base helps the kit hold its display posture cleanly.
Build notes
No glue required for the standard build, this is snap-fit. A basic Gunpla tool kit (sharp side cutters or nippers, a hobby knife for clean-up, a panel line marker) is recommended though not essential. Allow 3 to 4 hours total build time at a relaxed pace, longer if you panel line, apply the sticker sheet, or set up the lead-wire anchor pose carefully. Recommended age 8 and over per the Bandai box.
