The Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina is Rondo Gina Sahaku's mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray manga side-story, a black-and-gold reworking of the Astray line built around the Totsuka no Tsurugi transforming claw and the twin Maga no Ikutachi wings. General reception on this kit is positive and searches did not turn up a repeated, corroborated fault. One isolated build report described unusually fragile parts requiring super glue for multiple breaks, but this reads as an outlier rather than a pattern, most other accounts describe a straightforward assembly with good results, particularly when panel lining is used to bring out the gold trim. Handle the wire-mounted Maga no Shirahoko spears with a bit of care during posing since wire-mount parts are inherently more delicate than solid plastic joints.

Builder Tips: Panel line the black and gold panels separately with different coloured markers to keep the trim crisp. Test the backpack's wing-unfold mechanism gently the first few times before posing it fully open.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a hard kit? I've never built anything with transforming parts before.

It's rated Skill Level 2 by Bandai, the same band as most HGs, so the transforming wings and claw don't push it into advanced territory. The wire-mounted spears are the one part worth taking slowly the first time.

Does it need glue or paint to look right?

No, it's a snap-fit kit and the black-and-gold look is moulded into the plastic at the runner level. No cement and no paint required, though plenty of builders add panel lining to make the gold trim pop.

What's actually different about this one compared to a normal white Gundam kit?

It's from the SEED Astray side-story, piloted by Rondo Gina Sahaku, and it's built around a black-and-gold colour scheme instead of the usual Cosmic Era white. The backpack unfolds into twin wings and the forearm claw folds out, both genuine posing gimmicks rather than fixed detail.

Will it stand up on its own with the wings open, or do I need a stand?

It holds a static pose on a flat shelf fine. For the wings-open flight pose we'd suggest an Action Base, we stock the Bandai Action Base 1 and Action Base 5 in 1/144-compatible sizing.

Is this suitable as a gift for someone who's never built a Gunpla kit before?

Yes. Skill Level 2 covers most first-time builders comfortably, and the transformation gimmicks make it a more interesting build than a plain snap kit without tipping into advanced territory.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
