Bandai 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam
Bandai 1/100 MG ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam
Shinn Asuka's ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, in Bandai's 1/100 Master Grade. It has the full inner frame, wings that open and close, a heavy weapon loadout, in-scale pilot figures and its own display stand in the box. If you want the standard MG Destiny rather than the Extreme Blast Mode release, this is the one.
Build Difficulty
This is a standard Master Grade build: inner frame, snap-fit assembly, no glue, and parts removed with nippers. Foil stickers and marking stickers are included for the finishing detail. Skill Level 2 on our scale, which suits a builder who has finished an HG or two and wants a step up. Bandai first released this kit in 2007.
Technical Highlights
- Inner frame with joints described as improved for a wider range of movement.
- Wings that open and close.
- Unpainted 1/100 scale figures of Shinn Asuka (sitting and standing) and Stella Loussier.
- Custom display stand in the box for dynamic poses.
- Foil stickers and original design marking stickers.
What Makes This Kit Special
-
Arondight anti-ship sword: the signature blade comes with beam effect parts, and the right hand has a sword-holding grip.
-
Long-range beam cannon: a separate backpack-mounted weapon that can be wedged forward into firing mode with its rack.
-
Beam boomerangs: a pair that mount on the shoulders and come off to be hand-held, with beam boomerang and beam sword effect parts.
-
Palma Fiocina palms: open-palm hands for the palm cannon pose.
-
Pilot figures: Shinn (sitting and standing) and Stella, so the cockpit story is on the shelf too.

What to Watch For
The reviews we found were written on the Extreme Blast Mode release, which uses the same body as this kit, so treat these as notes on the shared frame.
-
The waist and skirts may be fussy. One reviewer found the waist switch that spreads the legs weak, the front skirt in the way of crouching, and the side skirts easy to knock off.
-
Joints may be stiff. Another reviewer reports very stiff joints that could break if forced, so ease them in rather than pushing.
-
Swapping hands may wear the polycaps. That reviewer's hands went loose after repeated swaps, and the wing peg loosened too, so one option is to pick a pose and leave the hands in place.
-
The Arondight may be heavy. The first reviewer found holding it one-handed at some angles is a strain on the wrist joint, so a two-handed grip or the stand helps.
Build Notes
Nippers and a hobby knife for gate clean-up are the tools you need. The beam effect parts and wings are the delicate bits, so store them somewhere safe if you take the kit off the stand.
