Bandai 1/100 MG RX-0 Full Armour Unicorn Ver.Ka

$142.99 AUD
The flagship end of the Unicorn line: the base RX-0's Unicorn-to-Destroy-Mode transformation buried under an enormous weapons package, two Beam Magnums, six Beam Gatling Guns and more, with the Type 94 Base Jabber mount included. A genuine multi-session build at 38 runners. It looks superb on display, but the weight makes it a static piece rather than one for dynamic re-posing.

Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/100 MG RX-0 Full Armour Unicorn Ver.Ka

Everything the Unicorn can carry, all at once

The RX-0 Unicorn already transforms between its restrained Unicorn Mode and the psycho-frame-lit Destroy Mode. The Full Armor Ver.Ka takes that base suit and buries it under a genuinely enormous weapons package, riding into battle mounted on the Type 94 Base Jabber. This is the flagship end of the Unicorn line, and it looks the part.

This is the December 2011 Master Grade release, one of Hajime Katoki's Ver.Ka designs.

Build difficulty

A serious Master Grade build. Snap-fit, moulded in colour, no glue or paint required, but with 38 runners and a genuinely large parts count, this is a multi-session project rather than an evening build. One detailed build log clocked around four hours just to snap the parts together before any detailing. Best suited to a builder who has finished several Master Grades already.

Technical highlights

The base Unicorn transformation carries over intact: Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode, with the psycho-frame glow running through the armour once it opens. On top of that, the Full Armor package adds a genuinely enormous weapons load: two Beam Magnums, two Hyper Bazookas, two Triple Missile Pods, two Grenade Launchers, six Beam Gatling Guns, three Shields, four Beam Sabers and two Hyper Beam Javelins. An additional frame holds the weapons on the backpack, and the Type 94 Base Jabber can be built as a mounted display option.

What makes this kit special

  • Unicorn to Destroy Mode transformation: the base RX-0 gimmick carries through, with the psycho-frame glow visible once the armour opens.
  • An enormous weapons package: two Beam Magnums, two Hyper Bazookas, six Beam Gatling Guns, three Shields and more, all in one box.
  • Type 94 Base Jabber build option: the mount vehicle can be assembled for a genuine ridden display.
  • Dedicated backpack weapon frame: a specific structure built to carry the extra hardware rather than bolting it on awkwardly.
  • Katoki Ver.Ka design: Hajime Katoki's stylistic pass on the Full Armor concept.

What to watch for

Weight and posability are the honest trade-off here, and every build review that goes into detail says the same thing. With the full weapons package fitted, the kit is reported as extremely fragile to pose, with parts falling off during handling, and the hands use a small peg that struggles to hold the heavier weapons securely. The beam spear in particular is described as essentially unholdable in a raised pose. The beam magnum fares better and can be held without issue.

This is not a fault specific to your box. It is a structural characteristic of loading this much hardware onto the Unicorn frame, and every detailed review lands on the same conclusion: it looks genuinely impressive assembled and displayed, but it is a static display piece rather than a kit built for dynamic re-posing.

Builder tips: decide on a display pose early and set it once, rather than repeatedly repositioning the heavier weapons. Use the included backpack stand for the thruster unit rather than relying on the legs alone. If a hand peg won't hold a weapon securely, a small dab of poster putty at the grip point holds without damaging the part.

Build notes

No glue and no paint required. Nippers, a hobby knife, sanding sticks and tweezers for the smaller weapon parts. Expect six to eight hours across several sessions given the 38 runners. Recommended age 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.3. Basic modeling skills are essential. These kits are not recommended for beginners or children due to the high level of complexity of assembly and the sheer volume of parts. Experience in building more complex Gunpla models is recommended. Parental supervision is essential. A full set of hobby tools is recommended that includes, nippers, hobby knives, sandpaper, sanding sticks, files, buffing files, glues, tweezers, and decal adhesive/softener. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these Gunpla kits the hottest sellers?

These kits are fan favourites for their detailed design, affordability, and build size, offering a balanced and enjoyable building experience.

Are these hottest seller kits suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Especially the HG kits, which are known for their fewer parts and simplicity, making them a great starting point for new builders.

What is the level of detail in the MG and RG hottest sellers?

MG kits boast a detailed inner frame and additional parts, while RG combines MG’s complexity with HG’s size for an intricate, compact build.

Can I get replacement parts if I lose some during the build?

Yes, if you buy a kit from Gundam Express Australia we will source replacement parts for you. This is not a quick process as parts need to come from Bandai in Japan.

How much space will I need to display these Gunpla?

HG and RG Gundam kits are compact, while MG Gundam are larger but still manageable. You won’t need too much space to showcase these masterpieces beautifully.
