Bandai HG00 1/144 QAN[T] (Quanta)

The HG00 1/144 QAN[T] (Quanta) brings Setsuna F. Seiei's final mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam 00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer into your collection in the High Grade format. The Quanta is the most advanced Gundam in the Anno Domini timeline, and this kit captures its signature quantum burst design with clear green AFS blade material, a working bit gimmick, and a custom display stand included in the box. If you're building out a Gundam 00 lineup, this is the centrepiece it needs.

The HG00 QAN[T] includes a fully recreated bit gimmick with the GN Sword V configurable in both Buster Sword and Buster Rifle modes, plus a custom display stand for dynamic posing options.

This kit is designed for beginner to intermediate builders. Clear parts are used throughout for the eyes, head sensors, chest, elbows, and knee lenses, giving the finished model a premium look straight out of the box without any painting. The swing action gimmick in the joints delivers a wide range of movement for posing, and the GN Shield attaches to the shoulder with solid articulation. A clean, rewarding build with strong visual payoff.

Builder Notes

The HG00 QAN[T] is a satisfying build with more gimmicks than you'd expect from a 2010 High Grade. The display stand inclusion tells you something: Bandai knew the weapon configurations needed support. A few issues are worth addressing during the build rather than after.

Head Camera Stickers (Most Common Finishing Complaint): The blue camera sensors on the head, including the side cameras and forehead sensor, come as flat stickers rather than colour-separated parts. They cover curved surfaces and do not sit flush, which becomes obvious once the kit is finished. The community consensus is to skip them entirely. Use a blue Gundam marker applied by brush to fill the recessed sensor areas instead. It takes a few minutes and looks significantly cleaner. The GN condenser gems on the body also use stickers. Painting these with clear green acrylic gives a far better result than the black stickers included.

Hand Armour Popping Off (Most Common Assembly Issue): The hand armour is a two-piece clamshell that clips around the hand unit. Under the weight of the GN Sword V in Buster Sword mode, the outer hand armour piece flexes and pops off repeatedly. The fix is straightforward and should be done during the build: apply a small amount of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement to the inner contact edges of the hand armour halves and allow them to set fully before attaching the hand to the arm. This permanently bonds the two halves and solves the problem. It does not affect posing.

Binder Connection to Backpack: When all seven sword bits are removed from the GN Sword Binder for separate display, the Binder can be pegged to the rear GN Drive on the backpack. There is no actual locking connection, though. It just sits there. In this configuration it also blocks head movement entirely. For display, either leave the sword bits on the Binder or use the included stand to keep the Binder off the kit altogether.

GN Sword V Buster Rifle Mode: In rifle mode, the forward brace does not connect to the forearm at all. It floats near the arm without clipping in. The mode looks unconvincing in person and is not stable for long-term display in this configuration. The Buster Sword mode is the better display option and the arm notch actually helps lock the blade in place.

Elbow Range: The forearm features a sword-lock notch that houses the GN Sword V blade. The trade-off is the removal of a polycap socket in the elbow. The elbow bend maxes out at about 90 degrees. This is a deliberate design decision, not a defect, but it limits dramatic posing angles with the arms. Plan your display pose with this in mind.

Seam Lines: This is 2010-era tooling and some seam lines are present, particularly on the upper arms and legs. For a panel-lined straight build these are minor. If you are painting, apply Tamiya Extra Thin Cement to the seams, allow them to meld, and sand flat before priming.

Stability Rating: 7/10. The kit is back-heavy with the Binder attached and left-heavy in a weapon-bearing pose. The included stand is there for a reason and handles both configurations well. For long-term display holding the Buster Rifle or Buster Sword, use the stand. Unequipped in a neutral pose, the kit stands without assistance.

The Fixes: Paint the head camera sensors and GN condenser gems rather than using the stickers. Cement the hand armour halves together during the build to prevent popping under weapon weight. Use the included display stand for any weapon-holding pose. The binder-to-backpack connection is loose by design — plan your display configuration before committing.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
