30MM 1/144 Bandai 30 Minutes Missions mecha kits, four assembled builds

Bandai 30 Minutes Missions

Some nights you don't have a full Gundam build in you. 30 Minutes Missions is Bandai's answer to that. These mecha kits built to go together in about half an hour, with no glue, no paint and no pressure. Sit down, snip a few parts, and have something finished on the desk the same evening. Underneath the simplicity there is a shared 3mm parts standard, so once you own two or three kits they start swapping arms, legs and weapons between them. Order before 2pm Mon to Fri AEST for same-day dispatch from Brisbane.

A Builder's Guide to 30 Minutes Missions

30 Minutes Missions (30MM) is Bandai Spirits' original mecha model line, launched in 2019 with the eEXM-17 Alto as kit number 01. Mechanical design comes from Kanetake Ebikawa, whose credits run across the Gundam franchise. The line sits under Bandai's 30 Minutes Label alongside 30 Minutes Sisters (30MS), 30 Minutes Fantasy (30MF) and 30 Minutes Preference (30MP).

Every 30MM kit is 1/144 scale, snap-fit, and moulded in colour. No glue. No paint required. The name is the design brief: Bandai builds these to go together in about half an hour, and most do.

The 3mm system is the real point. What separates 30MM from an ordinary snap-fit kit is the shared 3mm hardpoint standard. Arms, legs, weapons, armour and vehicles across the whole line connect through the same 3mm pegs and sockets. Buy two kits and you can rebuild both into something neither box shows. Add an Option Parts set and the combinations multiply. This is a kit-bashing system sold as individual kits, and it is why builders who start with one rarely stop at one.

The same 3mm standard is what lets 30MM parts interface with other kits carrying 3mm hardpoints, including many Gunpla option parts. Compatibility depends on the specific kit rather than being guaranteed across the board, so check the hardpoint layout before planning a cross-line build.

Build difficulty, and why that is the point. 30MM sits at the easy end on purpose. Part counts are low, runners are few, and the engineering is forgiving. A first-time builder can finish an Alto in an evening with nothing but a pair of nippers. That low barrier is not only for beginners. Plenty of experienced builders keep a couple of 30MM boxes on the shelf for the nights when a full Gundam build feels like work rather than a break: same snipping, same satisfying click, something finished on the desk before bed. Others use the line as a cheap, modular base for custom work, painting practice and dioramas.

What's in this collection. Core mecha kits from $22.99, through to the Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon range, which brings FromSoftware's designs into the same 3mm system between $40.99 and $89.99. Option Parts sets, Customize Weapons, Exa Vehicles and Customise Scene Bases fill out the rest, starting at $10.99. An Action Base 6 holds the finished build.

Where to start. The eEXM-17 Alto is the original kit and still the cleanest entry point. Add an Option Parts Set 16 (Arm Unit / Leg Unit 1) and you have two kits' worth of configurations for about $44. If you would rather build a Gundam than a customisable mecha, the Entry Grade Wing Gundam is the easiest first kit we stock, and the rest of the Entry Grade Gundam range sits alongside it. If the 3mm idea appeals, 30 Minutes Sisters uses the same parts standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are 30MM kits compatible with Gundam and other model kits?

Partly. 30MM uses a 3mm hardpoint standard shared across Bandai's 30 Minutes Label, so parts swap freely between 30MM, 30MS and 30MF kits. Connecting to Gunpla depends on the individual kit, since not every High Grade has 3mm hardpoints in useful places. Option Parts and Customize Weapons sets are the most reliable way to bridge the two lines.

Are 30MM kits good for beginners?

Yes. They are among the easiest plastic kits Bandai makes. Parts snap together without glue, the plastic is moulded in colour so paint is optional, and part counts are low enough that a first build finishes in roughly half an hour to an evening. A pair of plastic-cutting nippers is the only tool you actually need.

I already build Gunpla. Is 30MM worth picking up?

Depends what you want from it. As a display piece next to your Gundam shelf, a 30MM kit is a decent 1/144 mecha but it is not trying to out-detail an RG. Two things earn it a spot. First, the 3mm hardpoint standard: every kit in the line is a parts donor for every other kit, so two or three boxes turn into a workbench full of options. Second, it is a half-hour build, which makes 30MM the box you reach for on a night when you want to build something without committing to a project. Kit-bashers and anyone after a quick win get the most out of the line.

How much do I need to spend to actually get into customising?

Less than most Gunpla grades. A single 30MM mecha kit starts at $22.99 and builds on its own. To start swapping parts you want a second source: either a second kit or an Option Parts set from $10.99. Around $42 gets you a kit plus an Option Parts set, which is the point where the line stops being a model and starts being a system. Nippers are the only tool you need on top.

What is the difference between 30MM, 30MS and 30MF?

They are three lines under Bandai's 30 Minutes Label, sharing the same 3mm parts standard. 30 Minutes Missions (30MM) is military mecha. 30 Minutes Sisters (30MS) is character figures with customisable outfits and faces. 30 Minutes Fantasy (30MF) is swords-and-armour fantasy. Because the 3mm standard runs across all three, parts swap between the lines.
