Mirage's VF-31C Siegfried in three forms, with Makina on the shelf
This is the HG 1/100 VF-31C Siegfried (Mirage Farina Jenius use) from Macross Delta, in the Deluxe Set. The kit is Mirage's tactical support Siegfried, which shares most of its body with the Hayate VF-31J and carries a new head with two laser guns and a white and purple colour scheme. Bandai released it in Japan on 25 October 2025. The Deluxe Set adds a water-slide decal sheet and a two-sided acrylic stand of Makina Nakajima to the standard kit.
Build difficulty
Skill Level 2, and rated 15+ by Bandai. Bandai's shortcut change system uses swap parts so the Battroid, Gerwalk and Fighter forms need only a few steps and no fiddly mechanisms. The honest catch is the colour work. Insert moulding handles many of the lines, but one reviewer found the shoulders, knees and ankle armour moulded in plain white, with grey details, the chest centre and fine lines left to stickers or paint. Expect to spend your time on stickers.
Technical highlights
- Shortcut change transformation between Battroid, Gerwalk and Fighter using swap parts, per Bandai.
- Insert moulding for the wing lines and other complex colour areas, per Bandai.
- Joints are a combination of KPS parts, with no ABS and no polycaps, per one reviewer.
- Polarised canopy that opens and closes, with a choice of two-seat (with the Makina figure) or single-seat layout.
- Container unit that swings, with a beam gun pod that detaches and a forward-deploying mini gun pod, per Bandai and one reviewer.
- Swap-in landing gear for a parked Fighter mode.
- Locks in the Fighter form keep it firm, with no wobble, per one reviewer.
What makes this kit special
-
Three forms without a complicated build: the swap system keeps each mode clean and easy to change.
-
Mirage's own head and colours: two head-mounted laser guns and a white and purple scheme, different from the Hayate machine.
-
Deluxe Set extras: a water-slide decal sheet with a Makina Nakajima design and a double-sided acrylic stand drawn by Macross Delta character designer Chisato Mita.
-
Figures and base: two pilot figures, a Makina Nakajima figure and a multi-drone base are included.
-
Plenty of hands: expressive hand parts, including a Walküre sign hand, per Bandai and one reviewer.

What to watch for
Drawing on a review of this Deluxe Set and a review of the VF-31J, which shares the same engineering. Treat single-reviewer points as notes rather than confirmed faults:
- Stickers carry a lot of the colour. Both reviewers describe a large sticker count, and the VF-31J reviewer found them a tape-like material that stretches a little. Hard parts to finish are the shoulders, knees and ankle armour, which are plain white plastic.
- The pilot figures are moulded in one colour, so painting them is a big job, per one reviewer. The VF-31J reviewer found the same with that kit's Freyja figure.
- The head guns can foul the container unit and the grey part under the chin whitened when the neck was moved during posing, per one reviewer.
- On one reviewer's sample the nose landing gear cover would not stay on and needed adjusting, which they put down to sample variation.
- The VF-31J reviewer found the leg base joint pops off easily, which they note suits swap transformation.
- The mini gun pod muzzles are not hollowed, and the knives are thick with no storage gimmick, per one reviewer.
The reviews are positive on the proportions in all three forms, the range of movement and the simple transformation. One reviewer notes the Deluxe Set differs from the standard kit only by the acrylic stand and the Makina decals.
Build notes
Plan on a stickers-first build. Paint and panel lining are optional extras, and one reviewer notes few small moving parts make painting easier. Rated 15 and up by Bandai.
