Athrun Zala's assault Gundam, RG scale
The ZGMF-X09A Justice Gundam is Athrun Zala's assault mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, built around the Fatum-00, a combined thruster and weapons unit that gives it acceleration and flight range most Gundams from this era don't have. This Real Grade brings the Fatum-00 to 1/144 scale with its own dedicated engineering, not a scaled-down Master Grade shortcut.
If you're building out the Gundam SEED lineup, the Justice sits alongside the Freedom as one of the two flagship Gundams of the series, and this kit is built to display both with the Fatum-00 mounted and detached.
Build difficulty
This is a Real Grade kit, so expect the usual RG trade-off: a genuinely detailed inner frame and a higher part count than an HG for the same price, in exchange for smaller, more delicate parts. The Fatum-00's fixation structure and detachable shoulder parts add a couple of extra assembly stages over a standard RG, so budget a bit more time than your average 1/144. Builders who've finished an RG before will move through this comfortably; first-timers should go slowly around the finger joints and the Fatum-00 mounting points.
Technical highlights
The RG's internal frame carries through under the Fatum-00, and the unit's own fixation structure lets it attach or detach cleanly rather than just clipping onto the backpack. Detachable shoulder armour recreates the beam boomerang throwing pose, and open hands are included for the hand-holding pose associated with the Freedom and Justice pairing. Colour separation covers the white, blue and pink ZAFT scheme without needing paint for a clean finish.
What Makes This Kit Special
-
Fatum-00 flight and weapons unit: attaches or detaches cleanly via its own fixation structure, with support parts to hold it in a striking horizontal display.
-
Twin Fortis beam cannons: the Fatum-00's main armament, mounted front-facing on the unit.
-
Two RQM51 "Bassel" beam boomerangs: shoulder-stored throwing weapons, with detachable shoulder parts to recreate the throwing pose.
-
Full weapon loadout: beam rifle, beam saber, and a shield with laminated armour rather than the usual anti-beam coating.
-
Open hands included: for the classic Freedom-and-Justice hand-holding pose from the anime.
-
RG-scale inner frame: full internal skeleton under the outer armour, at 1/144 scale.

What to watch for
A few points come up across independent build write-ups. The finger joints are on the delicate side, more than one reviewer notes the thumb can pop off if you grip a weapon too firmly, so handle the hands gently when swapping accessories. With the Fatum-00 mounted, the kit runs back-heavy, which affects free-standing balance in more dynamic poses. And like every RG, the ball-jointed ankles limit how wide a ground stance you can pull off compared to an HG at half the price, so keep expectations realistic for extreme action poses.
Builder Tips: A display stand earns its keep on this one, especially with the Fatum-00 attached for a flight pose. Support the shield-holding arm if you're posing the kit with the shield raised, since the shield's weight can pull the wrist joint out of position over time.
Build notes
Snap-fit assembly, no cement required. Nippers and a hobby knife recommended for clean part removal. Decal work is optional but the RG Real Stickers reward a careful hand. Budget 2 to 3 hours for a straightforward build. Recommended age 15+.
