Gipsy Danger is the Mark-3 Jaeger from 2013's Pacific Rim, piloted by Raleigh Becket and Mako Mori against the Kaiju. This is the first Pacific Rim kit Mecha Express has ever stocked, and it's not a small one. Max Factory's PLAMAX line built this at 1/350 scale using 3D data straight from the film, right down to the inner frame under the armour.

This one's for anyone whose shelf has been all Gundam so far and wants a genuine Hollywood mecha standing next to it. Newcomers to the hobby and long-time Gunpla builders alike can pick this up, just go in with honest expectations (see Build difficulty below).

Build difficulty

The kit is colour-separated and snap-fit, no cement or paint required to complete it, and Max Factory rate it approachable. Being straight with you: independent builder accounts describe several of the armour panels as held by tabs rather than pegs, meaning they can pop off during handling and posing until you've built up a feel for the kit, and more than one builder has reached for a dab of glue on the more exposed joints for a securer display pose. The chest LED unit is a genuine highlight but is a little fiddly to wire up and access for battery changes. Budget more time than a same-size Gundam kit, mostly for the decal sheet, which independent reviewers describe as extensive.

Technical highlights

Built in ABS and polystyrene using 3DCG data sourced directly from the film, so the proportions and panel work are screen-accurate rather than an artist's interpretation. The armour lifts away to reveal a detailed inner frame, a nice touch if you want to display it partially exposed. What to watch for

One detailed independent build account flags several armour panels (shoulder, knee, and rear sections in particular) as held by tabs rather than pegs, which can mean they pop off more easily than a comparable Gundam kit until you're used to it. A couple of independent builders separately describe the decal sheet as extensive, so budget real time for it if you want the full screen-accurate look. The chest LED lights the reactor core but doesn't extend further into the frame. None of this is a dealbreaker, it's simply a different kind of kit to a modern snap-together Gunpla release, more collector piece than weekend speed-build.

Builder tip: a small dot of clear-drying glue on the shoulder and rear armour tabs (optional, not required to complete the kit) goes a long way toward a display pose that holds.

Build notes

No cement or paint is required to finish the kit as designed, though some builders choose a light glue on a few tab joints for extra security once posed. Two LR41 batteries are needed for the LED unit and aren't included. Recommended age 15 and up. Expect a longer build session than an HG Gundam kit of similar size, mostly down to the decal work.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
