Gundam Real Touch Marker - Red 1

A red weathering marker for dirt and shading

The Gundam Marker Real Touch Marker Red 1 (GM404) is a water-based wipe-off marker from GSI Creos (Mr. Hobby) for adding dirt and shading to plastic kits. Draw it on, wipe it back with a tissue or cotton swab, and leave the colour in the recesses.

How hard is it to use?

It is a marker, so there is no assembly. Manufacturer instructions show a four step process: coat the part with matte clear, run the marker along the edges, blend with the GM400 blurring pen, then wipe the excess off with a cotton swab or tissue. Test it on a spare part first.

Technical highlights

The marker has two tips, one fine and one thick. The thick tip covers a whole part and the fine tip is for recesses. The ink is water-based and wipe-off. The manufacturer notes it cannot be used with the Gundam Marker Airbrush System.

What makes this marker special

  • Water-based wipe-off ink: it wipes back with a tissue or cotton swab, so you can control how much stays.
  • Twin tips: a fine tip and a thick tip on one pen.
  • Made for dirt and shading: the Real Touch line is aimed at realistic weathering and blurred paint effects.
  • Blends with the GM400 blurring pen: the blurring pen is used to soften the border of GM401 to GM410 colours.
