Bandai SDCS Tornado Gundam

Tornado Gundam from SD Gundam G Generation, in SD Cross Silhouette

The Tornado Gundam is a prototype mobile suit from the SD Gundam G Generation games, and this kit puts it in Bandai's SD Gundam Cross Silhouette line. Its signature arm gatling guns, movable back binders and two selectable frames make it a compact kit with display options.

It suits SD Gundam fans, Cross Silhouette collectors, and builders who want a short, fun build that still has posing and a choice of proportions.

Build difficulty

Bandai rates it for ages 8 and over, and we class it as Skill Level 1. It is a small kit, so a pair of nippers and a hobby knife for clean-up are the tools to have. Stickers are included.

Technical highlights

The kit includes both a CS frame and an SD frame, and you pick one at build time to get the proportions you prefer. The gatling gun on each arm can be shown in a normal or a deployed state by attaching and detaching parts, and the beam sabers can be connected. Each part of the back binder moves.

What makes this kit special

  • Two frames in one box: a CS frame and an SD frame are both included, and you choose the build.
  • Deployable gatling: normal and deployed states by swapping parts on the arm.
  • Connecting beam sabers: the two sabers can be linked.
  • Movable back binder: each section of the binder moves.
  • Beam rifle and spare hands: a beam rifle and a set of swap-in hands for different poses.

  • Tornado Gundam parts, with both the CS and SD frames
  • Hand parts (1 set)
  • Deployed gatling parts (1 set)
  • Beam rifle (1)
  • Beam saber (2)
  • Stickers (1 sheet)

No display base is listed in the contents.

Compatible accessories

Bandai's press photos show the kit posed on an Action Base, which is sold separately and is not part of this kit.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.1. Most adults & children can assemble Skill Level 1 kits with little to no difficulty. Very basic hobby tools are recommended including a pair of nippers, a hobby knife, but are not essential. No Glue is needed for these kits. Kits are all snap together build and most parts can be removed by twisting and pushing without the need to snip with nippers.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
