A Three Kingdoms legend rebuilt on Amuro Ray's Gundam
Guan Yu Yunchang is one of the most enduring figures out of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the sworn brother of Liu Bei and the general who carried the Green Dragon Crescent Blade into every major battle of the era. Bandai's SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden line reimagines him through the silhouette of the RX-93 Nu Gundam, Amuro Ray's mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, built up in flowing gold and jade green armour with his signature blade rebuilt as a Fin Funnel-style back weapon.
This is the "Wu Sheng" (Sage of War) release in the line, an upgraded pass on the character with new gold and clear green tooling and a reworked joint structure over the earlier Sangoku Soketsuden entry.
Build difficulty
Bandai rates this a Skill Level 1 kit, its simplest classification. It's a snap-fit build with no cement and no paint required, parts moulded in their final colours with a foil sticker sheet to sharpen a handful of details like the eyes and shoulder accents. First-time builders can finish it in a single sitting, and Bandai's own age rating of 8 years and up confirms it's built to be approachable. The one thing worth taking slowly is the Blue Dragon Crescent Blade weapon, which reconfigures between three different states, so it pays to test-fit before committing to a final pose.
Technical highlights
The kit leans on gold and translucent jade-green moulded plastic for its colour separation, so the armour reads correctly straight off the runner without paint. The signature weapon, the Blue Dragon Crescent Blade "Shigoku," is cast largely in clear green plastic and swaps between a Fin Funnel-style suspended state on the back, a one-handed grip, and a two-handed maximum-reach form. There's no internal frame or LED gimmick here, this is a chibi-proportioned SD figure built for a fast, characterful build rather than engineering complexity.
What makes this kit special
-
A Three Kingdoms legend on a Universal Century frame: Guan Yu Yunchang's Green Dragon Crescent Blade and warrior iconography rebuilt using the actual RX-93 Nu Gundam silhouette, not a generic SD body.
-
Reconfigurable signature weapon: the Blue Dragon Crescent Blade swaps between a Fin Funnel-style back-mounted state, a one-handed grip, and a two-handed maximum form.
-
Strong moulded colour separation: gold and clear jade-green parts do the work paint normally would, so the finished figure looks right straight off the runner.
-
Upgraded "Wu Sheng" tooling: new gold and clear green parts and a reworked joint structure over the earlier Sangoku Soketsuden release of the same character.
-
Foil sticker accents: included stickers sharpen the eyes and shoulder details without a paint station.
-
Snap-fit, no glue or paint: Skill Level 1 construction built to be finished in one sitting.

What to watch for
Two independent build reviews of this exact release flag a few things worth knowing before you start. The connection points on the armour pieces are on the firm side, and forcing a part off without care risks snapping it, so a proper part separator tool is worth having on hand. The waist side armour panels can work loose during posing, and the ankle joints use an angled connection that can slip if the legs are handled roughly while adjusting a pose. The Blue Dragon Crescent Blade is large relative to the figure, and a customer review of this exact kit flagged it as feeling oversized in hand, which lines up with build reviewers noting the finished figure can tip backward if the weapon isn't balanced in a stable pose.
Builder tips: keep a part separator on hand for the tighter connection points, test-fit the Blue Dragon Crescent Blade in your intended pose before committing, and consider a light touch of cement on the waist side armour if it works loose after repeated posing (optional, the kit doesn't require glue to complete).
Build notes
No cement or paint is required to complete this kit, it's a full snap-fit build with foil stickers to sharpen a handful of details. A basic tool set (nippers and a hobby knife) is enough, and the figure is a realistic single-sitting build for a builder of any experience level, with the reconfigurable Blue Dragon Crescent Blade the only part worth taking slowly. Suited to age 8 and up per Bandai's own rating, with the usual sensible supervision for younger builders around small parts.
