Bandai Option Parts Set Gunpla 18 (Build Booster Set)

Two Build Boosters in one set

Option Parts Set Gunpla 18 puts the Build Booster and the Build Booster Mk-II from the Gundam Build series into one pack. Both boosters transform from a fighter form into a backpack form, so you can bolt a booster-style backpack onto a kit and pose it in flight.

Build difficulty

It is an option parts set rather than a full kit, and Bandai lists it for ages 8 and over. Bandai's product page does not give a part count or a build time, so there is no figure to quote here. Bandai does not list tools or assembly details on its page, so check the instructions in the box.

Technical highlights

Each booster transforms from a fighter into a backpack. In backpack form it attaches to a range of mecha using the included joint parts. The parts can be taken off and used as weapons, and the non-weapon parts can be added to other Gunpla with the joint parts.

What makes this set special

  • Two boosters in one pack: the Build Booster and the Build Booster Mk-II together.
  • Fighter to backpack transformation: each booster changes form for a flight-style backpack.
  • Joint parts included: the backpack form can be attached to various mecha.
  • Removable weapons: parts can be taken off and used as weapons.
  • Customisation parts: the other parts can be fitted to various Gunpla with the joint parts.

What's in the box

  • Build Booster x1
  • Build Booster Mk-II x1

Bandai also notes that joint parts are included for mounting. The kits and display stand in the product photos are sold separately.

Compatible kits

Bandai says the backpack form attaches to various mecha using the included joints, and does not publish a list of kits. No display base is included. For flight poses with the boosters, you could pair it with the Bandai Action Base 2, a display stand for 1/144 scale Gunpla.

Both boosters change from a fighter form into a backpack form. Bandai says the backpack form attaches to various mecha using the included joints.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Excellent service and fast delivery

I purchased on 6 Jan and my order arrived on 13 Jan. It was very well packed, with both boxes in excellent condition. Cam even provided a small free gift in the box! Overall purchasing experience was smooth and hassle-free. I haven’t had the chance to build the kit yet, but based on the service and care taken with shipping, I would happily purchase from this store if there are other Space Battleship Yamato models available.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
