Osiris comes to the shelf

Slifer the Sky Dragon is one of the three Egyptian God cards from Yu-Gi-Oh!, and this Figure-rise Standard Amplified kit gives it the same oversized, engineered treatment Bandai gives its Gundam flagships. The serpentine body, the twin jaws and the massive wingspan are all here in kit form, moulded in Slifer's crimson red straight off the runners.

If you know Slifer from the card or the anime, this is the display piece that actually captures the scale of the thing.

Build difficulty

This is an intermediate build. The serpentine body uses lead wire segments that take some patience to shape and pose, and the wing assembly has real part count behind it. If you've built a Figure-rise Standard kit before, you're well set up for this one. First-timers can still manage it, just take the body segment assembly slowly and follow the manual step by step.

Technical highlights

The two-jaw head opens and closes independently for the Thunder Force pose from the anime, and the segmented body uses lead wire inside the joints so the whole snake-like torso holds a curved pose instead of springing back straight. PET sheet parts add a translucent effect across specific panels, and the dedicated display base and joint arm let you mount the finished kit in a full aerial pose rather than just standing it on a shelf.

Independent build coverage is thin so far. One builder's write-up mentioned posing the body took some patience because of the serpentine shape, but said it looked great once positioned on the desk. That's a single source, not a confirmed pattern, so take it as a heads-up rather than a rule: budget extra time for shaping the lead-wire body into a pose you're happy with.

Build Notes

No glue needed for the standard build, though some builders use a touch of cement to lock the lead-wire body into a final pose. Nippers, a hobby knife and a fine file are worth having on hand for panel clean-up. Expect a longer build than a standard Figure-rise kit given the part count and the body segment assembly. Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a static figure or a proper model kit I build myself?

It's a full model kit, not a pre-painted static figure. You build it yourself with Bandai's snap-fit system, and the finished kit has multiple articulated joints through the serpentine body and wings so you can actually pose it, not just display it in one fixed stance.

Do I need to paint it to get the red and black look from the card?

No painting needed. The parts come moulded in Slifer's crimson red straight off the runners, with the colour split handled in the moulding itself. Stickers cover the smaller detail work. If you want to go further with panel lining or weathering later, the kit takes it well, but it looks right straight out of the box.

How hard is this build? I've only done a couple of standard Figure-rise kits.

It's a step up. The lead-wire body segments and the big wing assembly take more patience than a standard humanoid Figure-rise kit, so budget more time than usual. If you've finished a Figure-rise Standard kit before you're in good shape for this one, just work through the body assembly slowly.

Is this the same Slifer from the Egyptian God card?

Yes, this recreates Slifer the Sky Dragon as it appears in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, the same monster shown on the Egyptian God card. The dual-jaw head, wide wingspan and serpentine body are all carried over from the anime design. It's an officially licensed Bandai kit.

Can I collect all three Egyptian Gods, and are the others in stock?

You can, though check stock before you commit to the full set. The Winged Dragon of Ra is also available as a Figure-rise Standard Amplified kit and currently has stock on hand. Obelisk the Tormentor completes the set but is out of stock at the moment. Each kit includes its own display base, so the collection can come together over time as stock allows.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
