Bandai 1/144 HGIBO McGillis's Schwalbe Graze
This is McGillis Fareed's personal Schwalbe Graze, the high-mobility commander variant he pilots through the back half of Iron-Blooded Orphans Season 1. The Schwalbe Graze is the Gjallarhorn officer's mobile suit — lighter, faster, and considerably more dangerous than the standard Graze grunt unit — and McGillis's blue colour scheme marks it out as the unit of one of the most cold-blooded political operators in the series.
If you've followed McGillis's arc, you know this is the suit he uses to position himself for the eventual takeover. Building it gives you a clean record of one of IBO's most distinctive personal mobile suits.
This kit is designed for beginner-to-intermediate builders and is a clean snap-fit build with strong colour separation.
The Schwalbe Graze is built on the standard Graze HG frame with remoulded torso and shoulder armour, and McGillis's version carries the kustom blue palette and a custom-fit knife included for close-quarters work. The kit also includes the rear booster pack, battle axe, and rifle that make up the standard Gjallarhorn loadout. Articulation is solid for an HGIBO release, and the colour separation is largely handled in-runner so painting is optional.
What Makes This Kit Special
-
McGillis Personal Colours: Distinctive Gjallarhorn officer blue scheme straight from the runners, no painting required for the headline look
-
Remoulded Commander Frame: New torso and shoulder armour over the standard Graze base, including a re-shaped head antenna for command rank
-
Close-Combat Knife: Custom knife included for the close-quarters fight scenes McGillis is famous for
-
Full Graze Loadout: Rear booster, battle axe, and rifle all included
-
Strong Colour Separation: Blue, dark grey, and white moulding holds up well on the shelf without paint
-
IBO Sub-line Compatibility: Hardpoints and joints match the rest of the HGIBO range for parts swapping with other Graze variants
-
Action Base Compatible: Standard 3mm peg for aerial display poses

What to Watch For
The head antenna is a sharp single point that pops off easily during posing. Handle the head with care once it's assembled, and consider gluing the antenna in place if you plan to handle the kit often. The chest armour is layered, and the inner blue piece can shift slightly during posing — a single drop of plastic cement on the inside seam locks it down without affecting the outer finish.
Builder Tips: Panel lining brings out the Gjallarhorn detail on the shoulders and chest. A grey panel line marker works well across the blue and white, and a black marker on the dark grey frame parts adds definition.
Build Notes
Snap-fit assembly. No glue required for the standard build. Nippers recommended for clean part removal. Expect a 2-3 hour build with panel lining. Action Base sold separately. Recommended age 15+.
