The Bandai 1/144 High Grade XVX-016 Gundam Lfrith is Elnora Samaya's mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. This High Grade release captures the Lfrith's distinctive high-mobility design with beam rifle, beam sabers, shield with beam cannon mode, and GUND-Format system. It's the definitive 1/144 scale version of the Vanadis Institute's prototype Gundam that started the Witch from Mercury story.
This kit includes approximately 250 parts and features snap-fit construction with no glue required. The High Grade engineering is designed for beginner to intermediate builders.
The build centres on the sleek, high-mobility design optimised for speed and manoeuvrability. You get the beam rifle, dual beam sabers, and shield that converts into beam cannon mode. The colour separation delivers the Lfrith's white, blue, and red scheme with minimal painting needed. The engineering features articulated joints throughout for dynamic action poses and the shield transformation mechanism that switches between defensive and offensive configurations. The kit represents the Lfrith as it appears in the prologue episode of The Witch from Mercury.

Known Build Considerations
As the debut kit for the Ad Stella timeline, the Lfrith has extensive community data that's highly consistent. This is a solid kit with modern engineering, but there are a few quirks worth knowing to get the best results from your build and display.
The Ankle Wobble (Most Common Issue): Because the kit lacks traditional ball-jointed feet and uses a hinge-only system, the Lfrith has almost zero side-to-side (lateral) ankle tilt. This makes it difficult to stand in wide heroic poses on a flat shelf without the feet lifting, leading to the kit sliding or tipping over. This is the most commonly reported issue. The community-standard solution is to display the Lfrith on an Action Base 5 or 6, which the kit was designed with in mind. For ground display, apply a tiny amount of Teflon tape or a thin layer of clear nail polish to the ankle hinge pins to increase friction and help the kit hold its weight better when the feet aren't perfectly flat.
C-Hinge Ankle Joints: This kit uses no polycaps. The feet connect via a C-clip hinge. If you rotate the foot past its intended stop point, you can easily stretch or snap the C-clip, which is a difficult part to repair without cement. Be gentle with the ankle articulation and don't force the foot beyond its natural range of motion. Test the movement gently before applying full pressure.
Limited Torso Crunch: Unlike the HG Aerial, the Lfrith's torso is largely a 360-degree swivel only. It has very little forward or backward abdominal crunch, which restricts more dynamic lunging poses. This is a design limitation rather than a defect. The kit is optimised for upright high-mobility poses rather than extreme action stances.
Shield Segment Gimmick: The Compo GUND-BIT Shield is made of seven individual bit-staves. While they lock in well, the slot-and-tab connections can be tight. Forcing them together can stress the white plastic, leading to white stress marks on the pink frame parts. Take your time assembling the shield segments and don't force anything that doesn't want to go together smoothly. If a connection is too tight, sand the tab slightly before inserting.
Knee Joint Orientation: The internal knee joint piece looks nearly identical upside down. If forced in incorrectly, it can jam the leg articulation and require prying that may damage the outer armour. Pay close attention to the instruction manual during knee assembly and make sure the joint is oriented correctly before pressing it in. Test the articulation before closing the armour panels.
Hand Scarcity: This kit only includes two closed fists. Because the inner frame is a unique lavender-tinged grey plastic, you cannot easily swap in open hands from other HG kits without a noticeable colour mismatch. If you want additional hand options, you'll need to pick up an aftermarket hand set or paint the hands to match.
In-Mould Detail Protection: The chest piece uses a special in-mould decoration. Do not use harsh solvents like high-strength lacquer thinner near this piece, or you risk melting the pre-printed pattern. Stick to mild panel lining products and avoid aggressive cleaning near the chest detail.
Stability Rating: 7/10 (Ground) / 10/10 (Action Base). On its own feet, the kit is a bit restricted due to the ankle limitations, but it's one of the most balanced kits for aerial posing. The Lfrith truly shines when displayed in the air on an Action Base, which is how it was designed to be shown.
The Fixes: Display on an Action Base 5 or 6 for best results. For ground display, apply Teflon tape or clear nail polish to ankle hinge pins for better friction. Be gentle with the C-clip ankle joints and don't force them past their range. Take your time with the shield segment assembly to avoid stress marks. Protect the in-mould chest detail from harsh solvents.
