The Bandai 1/144 High Grade Universal Century RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type is the Earth Federation's terrestrial combat mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. This HGUC release captures the Ground Type's distinctive asymmetrical chest design with 100mm machine gun, 180mm cannon, beam saber, and shield. It's the definitive 1/144 scale version of the One Year War's most rugged ground combat Gundam.
This kit includes approximately 200 parts and features snap-fit construction with no glue required. The HGUC engineering is designed for beginner to intermediate builders.
The build centres on the simplified ground combat design optimised for Earth's gravity and terrain. You get the 100mm machine gun, 180mm cannon, beam saber, and shield. The colour separation delivers the Ground Type's white, blue, red, and yellow scheme with minimal painting needed. The engineering features the asymmetrical chest vents that distinguish the Ground Type from the standard RX-78-2 and articulated joints designed for ground combat poses. The kit includes effect parts for the beam saber and multiple hand options for weapon holding configurations.

Known Build Considerations
I want to be transparent about a few things you should know before building this kit. These aren't dealbreakers, but they're worth being aware of so you can build with confidence.
The Torso Joint (Most Common Issue): The ball joint connecting the abdomen to the chest uses a polycap that can lack enough grip, causing the torso to disconnect or lean loosely when posing with the 180mm cannon. This is the most commonly reported issue across builder reviews. The fix is straightforward: apply a thin layer of clear nail polish or Teflon tape to the male end of the torso ball joint and let it dry completely before reassembling. Some builders also cut a tiny sliver of flat runner plastic and place it inside the polycap socket to add extra friction.
V-Fin (Part A1 7): Like most High Grade kits, the V-fin is thin. The gate positioning can stress the plastic when snipping if you're not careful. Use sharp nippers and cut away from the part to avoid stress marks.
Ankle Guard Pins: The small pins holding the ankle guards can snap if forced during leg assembly. Take your time with these and don't force anything that doesn't want to go together easily.
Lower Arm Gaps: There's a minor design quirk where the two halves of the forearm don't quite snap flush, leaving a visible seam line near the wrist. This is due to the clearance needed for the double-jointed wrist movement. It's not a defect, just part of the engineering trade-off for articulation.
Limited Left-Hand Options: The kit only provides a right-handed trigger finger. If you want a symmetrical dual-wielding look or a left-handed pose, you'll need to raid your spares box or pick up an aftermarket hand set.
Stability Rating: 8/10. Despite the torso joint issue, the tripod leg design and the shield's built-in bipod make this one of the most stable High Grade kits for ground-based firing poses. Once you've tightened that torso joint, this kit holds poses beautifully.
