Bandai 1/100 MG PMX-003 THE-O

$249.99 AUD
The MG 1/100 PMX-003 THE-O is Paptimus Scirocco's Titan mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and one of the largest, heaviest Master Grade kits Bandai has made. It stands around 25 cm with strong colour separation straight from the runners, so a clean snap-build looks close to the box art without paint. Hidden sub-arms fold out of the front skirt and the cockpit opens to a Scirocco pilot figure. Poseability is honest rather than acrobatic, and the big feet keep it planted.

Bandai 1/100 MG PMX-003 THE-O

Scirocco's Titan mobile suit, reborn in 1/100

The PMX-003 THE-O is Paptimus Scirocco's personal mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, a hand-built machine designed to match its pilot's ego. It has no straight lines and no restraint. It is a wide, elongated wall of armour that dwarfs almost everything it shares a shelf with. This is the Master Grade release, kit number 137, produced in 2010 to mark the 15th anniversary of the MG line. If you grew up on Zeta or you collect the antagonist side of the Universal Century, THE-O belongs on your shelf.

Build difficulty

This is a large kit with a manageable part count rather than an intricate one. The assembly is snap-fit, the parts are pre-coloured, and no glue or paint is required. Experienced builders have finished the core construction in around three hours. The challenge here is size, not fiddliness. The armour panels are big and flat, so clean nub removal and light sanding make a real difference to the finished look. It is rated Skill Level 3, but a patient builder with one Master Grade behind them will be fine. Set aside bench space, because THE-O takes up a lot of it.

Technical highlights

THE-O stands roughly 25 cm tall and the finished model weighs close to 600 grams, which puts it among the heaviest Master Grade kits of its era. It has a full inner frame, with the leg structure engineered to carry that weight and keep the kit standing. Colour separation is strong straight from the runners, so a clean snap-build reads close to the box art before you touch a paint pot. It comes armed with a beam rifle and four beam saber hilts, and a pair of sub-arms fold out from inside the front skirt armour. The cockpit hatch opens to reveal a Paptimus Scirocco pilot figure.

What Makes This Kit Special

  • Sheer size and presence: one of the largest and heaviest MG kits Bandai released in its era, a genuine centrepiece at around 25 cm.
  • Hidden retractable sub-arms: two extra arms fold out of the front skirt armour and can grip the beam sabers, recreating THE-O's signature ambush trick.
  • Opening cockpit with pilot figure: the hatch opens to a Paptimus Scirocco figure, a nod to the suit's in-universe design.
  • Inner frame built for the weight: the leg construction is designed to support the bulk and keep the kit stable in a standing pose.
  • Straight-build friendly: pre-coloured parts and strong colour separation mean it looks accurate without paint.
  • 15th anniversary MG: released in 2010 as MG number 137, a long-awaited entry for Zeta collectors.

Fast Australian shipping

Dispatched same day from our Brisbane warehouse if ordered before 2pm AEST on weekdays. Free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $199. Genuine Australian stock in hand, not ordered through an overseas proxy. A large kit like THE-O is packed securely in a sturdy outer box with water-soluble cornstarch void fill that dissolves cleanly in the sink.

What to Watch For

THE-O ships with four beam saber hilts but only two beam blade effect parts, so you can display two lit sabers at once. Poseability is honest rather than acrobatic. The arms move well, the legs are more limited by the bulk, and the large feet do a good job of keeping the kit planted. The inner frame is lighter than some Master Grades of the same period, because this kit was engineered for presence rather than extreme articulation. The big flat armour surfaces show nub marks and fingerprints, so careful nub cleanup pays off on a kit this size.

Builder Tips: take your time with nub removal and a light sand on the visible armour edges. Panel lining lifts the detail on all that flat surface area. If you want dynamic poses rather than a straight stand, budget for a 1/100 display base to take the weight.

Build Notes

No glue or paint is required. A basic tool set covers it: nippers, a hobby knife, and sanding sticks for clean-up. Expect around three hours or more for the core build depending on how much finishing you do. Recommended age is 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.3. Basic modeling skills are essential. These kits are not recommended for beginners or children due to the high level of complexity of assembly and the sheer volume of parts. Experience in building more complex Gunpla models is recommended. Parental supervision is essential. A full set of hobby tools is recommended that includes, nippers, hobby knives, sandpaper, sanding sticks, files, buffing files, glues, tweezers, and decal adhesive/softener. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the finished 1/100 MG THE-O, and how does it compare to other Master Grade kits?

THE-O is exceptionally large for a Master Grade. It stands around 25 cm tall and the finished model weighs close to 600 grams, which makes it one of the biggest and heaviest MG kits of its era. On the shelf it towers over most standard MG builds and rivals some larger kits for sheer bulk. The size is its defining feature.

What is the build difficulty, and is it suitable for beginners or experienced builders?

It is rated Skill Level 3, but the difficulty comes from size rather than a high part count. Assembly is snap-fit with pre-coloured parts and no glue or paint required, and experienced builders have finished the core build in around three hours. If you have built one or two Master Grades before, THE-O is very approachable. Set aside plenty of bench space.

What are the hidden sub-arms, and how well does THE-O pose?

Two extra arms fold out from inside the front skirt armour, and their hands can grip the beam sabers to recreate THE-O's ambush attacks. The main limbs pose reasonably well, though the legs are more limited by the bulk. The large feet keep the kit stable in a standing pose. Expect a commanding presence rather than acrobatic action poses.

Does the kit include all its weapons, and how many beam saber effects come with it?

Yes. THE-O comes with its beam rifle and four beam saber hilts. Note that Bandai only includes two beam blade effect parts, so you can display two lit sabers at a time even though there are four hilts. This is a well-known quirk of the kit.

It was released in 2010. How well does this older Master Grade hold up?

THE-O was released in 2010 as MG number 137, marking the 15th anniversary of the Master Grade line. It has a full inner frame, with the legs engineered to support its considerable weight. Newer MGs offer more articulation in places, but THE-O's size, unusual design and functional gimmicks mean it still holds up as a display piece. It was built for presence, and it delivers that.
