Bandai 1/144 HGBF Zaku Amazing

$38.99 AUD
Yuuki Tatsuya's Zaku Amazing! A High Grade kit with heavy custom armor and a massive arsenal for dynamic posing.
From $10
4 × $9.74
Key features

Massive Custom Weapon Array: The kit is famous for its extensive and distinctive "Amazing" arsenal, which includes a Long Rifle, two Amazing Pistols, two Heat Natas (machetes) that store on the backpack, and two shields that can mount the pistols, making it a heavily armed all-range combat suit.

Crimson Comet Custom Design: It is the signature Gunpla of Tatsuya Yuuki (Meijin Kawaguchi III) from Gundam Build Fighters. The design is a highly modified, bulked-up version of the iconic High Mobility Zaku II, featuring a striking red/crimson and black color scheme with high-detail armor parts that distinguish it dramatically from a standard Zaku.

High Customization Compatibility: As an HGBF (High Grade Build Fighters) kit, it is engineered with standard 3mm attachment points across the body and backpack. This design choice heavily encourages the Gunpla's core theme of customization, allowing builders to easily swap weapons, armor, and backpack parts with components from other HG kits.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended skill level for this kit, and is it suitable for a beginner?

The HGBF Zaku Amazing is a High Grade (HG) model, which is generally considered beginner-friendly. The kit uses a snap-fit system, requiring no glue or paint for assembly. However, due to the bulkiness of its custom armor and the complexity of its backpack/weapon system, it offers slightly more challenge than a standard HG kit, making it ideal for an enthusiastic beginner or intermediate builder looking for a satisfying, detailed project.

Does this kit include the Amazing Booster backpack unit?

No, the Amazing Booster backpack unit is not included with the HGBF 1/144 Zaku Amazing mobile suit kit. The Amazing Booster was released as a separate accessory pack (The Amazing Weapons & Joint Set) to be fully compatible with this Zaku. The Zaku Amazing kit does include its customized backpack, thrusters, and the full Amazing Weapon System (Rifle, Shield, and Heat Nata/Machete).

How is the poseability and articulation, given the bulky Zaku design and heavy armor?

The kit has good, solid articulation for its design, which is based on the robust High Mobility Zaku II frame. While the heavy shoulder shields and leg armor impose minor limitations typical of Zaku models, the overall range of movement is sufficient for dynamic action poses. The joints are sturdy enough to support its large array of weaponry, ensuring stability for aggressive, battle-ready display stances.

What is the primary focus of this kit—detail or customization?

The HGBF Zaku Amazing excels at a balanced combination of both detail and customization potential. Detail: The armor features sharp, deep panel lines and is molded in the accurate crimson and black colors of Tatsuya Yuuki's custom suit. Customization: As a Build Fighters kit, it features the standardized 3mm pegs and ports across its frame and weapons, making it highly compatible with weapon systems and optional parts from other Bandai HG kits (e.g., Build Fighters accessories), allowing for endless modifications.

Does the kit include all the necessary color separation, or is painting required for a screen-accurate look?

The kit features excellent color separation for a High Grade model, with all major armor panels molded in the correct crimson and black colors. The iconic mono-eye is typically provided with a foil sticker or clear part. No painting is strictly required for a visually impressive, screen-accurate build. However, experienced builders may opt for minor paint application and panel lining to further enhance the detailed mechanical parts and panel seams.
