Bandai Ryuohmaru (Mashin Hero Wataru)

$36.99 AUD
Ryuohmaru is the classic first power-up of Wataru's hero mecha, rebuilt for the 2025 Mashin Souzo Densetsu Wataru series on Bandai's snap-fit common-frame system, no glue and no paint required. Gold metallic dragon-head shoulder crests and a blue clear-part Star Dragon Sword give it strong colour separation straight off the runner.

Key features

Gold metallic dragon-head shoulders: the twin dragon king heads and blue dragon crest are moulded in gold metallic parts, not paint.

Blue clear-part Star Dragon Sword: Ryuohmaru's signature weapon comes in clear blue plastic, the kit's only confirmed accessory.

Common-frame cross-compatibility: built on the same shared frame system as the rest of the Wataru mecha line, so parts play nicely with Enjyoumaru and Raijinmaru on the shelf.

Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai Ryuohmaru (Mashin Hero Wataru)

Ryujinmaru's first great power-up

Ryuohmaru is the hero mecha in its classic evolved form: the first upgrade Wataru's dragon-spirit partner Ryujinmaru takes on, rebuilt from the ground up for Mashin Souzo Densetsu Wataru (魔神創造伝ワタル), Bandai Namco Filmworks' 2025 TV anime made for the 35th anniversary of the original Mashin Hero Wataru. Where the current run's antagonist mecha Enjyoumaru marks the story's dark turn, Ryuohmaru is the hero side answering it, dropping Ryujinmaru's blue for a dominant white and a more symmetrical twin dragon-head shoulder design. If you're filling out the Wataru mecha shelf, this is the one that carries the hero lineage forward.

Build difficulty

Ryuohmaru goes together on the same common-frame, touch-gate system Bandai uses across the whole current Wataru mecha line, so parts pull free by hand and no cement is needed for a standard build. Bandai rates the kit for builders aged 8 and up, and hasn't published an exact part count, but the boxed weight (290g in a 30.9 x 20.5 x 8.3cm rigid box) sits in line with the rest of the sub-$40 releases in this series, so it's a single-sitting build rather than a marathon one. A solid pick for a first Wataru kit or a quick build night.

Technical highlights

The dragon king head and blue dragon crest on both shoulders are moulded in gold metallic parts rather than painted on, and the signature Star Dragon Sword is reproduced in blue clear plastic, so the colour separation is doing real work straight off the runner. Bandai's common-frame engineering is also what lets Ryuohmaru cross-compatible with the rest of the current Wataru mecha line, so parts can be mixed and matched between kits. We couldn't confirm a specific articulation spec for this exact release from published sources, so we've kept the claims here to what's actually confirmed.

What makes this kit special

  • Gold metallic dragon-head shoulders: the twin dragon king heads and blue dragon crest are moulded in gold metallic parts, not painted, so the detail is there straight out of the box.
  • Blue clear-part Star Dragon Sword: Ryuohmaru's signature weapon comes moulded in clear blue plastic, the kit's one confirmed accessory.
  • Ryujinmaru's classic power-up: this is the hero mecha's first evolved form, a character beat longtime Wataru fans will recognise, rebuilt for the 2025 series.
  • Common-frame cross-compatibility: built on the same shared frame system as the rest of the current Wataru mecha line, so parts play nicely with Enjyoumaru and Raijinmaru on the shelf.
  • Touch-gate, snap-fit build: no glue, no paint, parts pull free by hand for a clean first build.
  • Genuine Bandai Spirits release: official kit from the current Wataru anime line, not a third-party or unlicensed cast.

What's in the box

  • Plastic parts runners for Ryuohmaru's full-body assembly (common-frame, touch-gate design)
  • Star Dragon Sword (blue clear parts)
  • Instruction sheet

This matches Bandai's own published accessory list for the kit. We haven't found any source confirming a display stand is included, so none is listed here.

Compatible kits

No specific compatible display stands or accessories have been confirmed for Ryuohmaru, so none are listed here. No stand is included in the box either. If you're building out the full Wataru mecha roster, the kits below share the same common-frame engineering and are built to combine:

What to watch for

We haven't found independent builder reviews for this specific kit yet, so we can't give verified feedback on fit or finish here. As a general note on Bandai's Wataru common-frame kits: they're designed for touch-gate assembly, so if a joint feels tight, don't force it, a light twist usually seats the part cleanly.

Builder tip: nippers make for cleaner runner removal than twisting alone, even on a no-cement kit like this one.

Build notes

No cement or paint required for a standard build. A pair of nippers is the only tool you really need. Expect a single sitting to complete. Bandai rates this kit for builders aged 8 and up.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these Gunpla kits the hottest sellers?

These kits are fan favourites for their detailed design, affordability, and build size, offering a balanced and enjoyable building experience.

Are these hottest seller kits suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Especially the HG kits, which are known for their fewer parts and simplicity, making them a great starting point for new builders.

What is the level of detail in the MG and RG hottest sellers?

MG kits boast a detailed inner frame and additional parts, while RG combines MG’s complexity with HG’s size for an intricate, compact build.

Can I get replacement parts if I lose some during the build?

Yes, if you buy a kit from Gundam Express Australia we will source replacement parts for you. This is not a quick process as parts need to come from Bandai in Japan.

How much space will I need to display these Gunpla?

HG and RG Gundam kits are compact, while MG Gundam are larger but still manageable. You won’t need too much space to showcase these masterpieces beautifully.
