Idol Unchi is part of Bandai's officially licensed Unko Suru Days Clay Model Kit line, a genuine Japanese novelty craft series, not a plastic model kit. Build difficulty
This is a hand-sculpting kit, not an assembly kit. There's nothing to snap together, no runners to cut, and no cement. You press the included pink paper clay by hand over the plastic mould piece, following the idol styling and detailing Bandai has already moulded in, then finish the look with the included sticker sheet. There's no wrong way to do it and no build skill required. Hands-on time is short, well under half an hour, though the clay needs time afterwards to firm up.

The clay in this kit is paper clay, not resin, not polymer clay, and not a standard air-dry sculpting compound. Bandai updated its own product listing in July 2025 specifically to make this clear. It air-dries at room temperature, no oven, kiln, or heat gun needed. The kit includes one 30g block of pink paper clay. What to watch for
Paper clay dries out if it's left uncovered, so keep it wrapped between sculpting sessions if you're not finishing in one go. Press it into the mould in an even layer where you can, thick lumps take longer to firm up and are more likely to crack as they dry. The sticker sheet is a single-use application, so plan the eye and detail placement before you press it down.
Builder tips: work on a flat, protected surface, paper clay can mark timber or fabric while it's still wet. Let the finished piece firm up fully before handling it for photos or display.
Build notes
No glue and no paint are required to complete this kit. Bandai's packaging lists it for ages 6 and up in Japan; given the small clay and plastic parts, adult supervision is recommended for younger children. There's no fixed build time, since it's freeform sculpting rather than a timed assembly.
