Bandai RG 1/144 MS-06S Char's Zaku II
The RG 1/144 MS-06S Char's Zaku II brings the Red Comet's iconic commander-type Zaku from the original Mobile Suit Gundam into your collection through Bandai's Real Grade inner frame system. Char Aznable's custom MS-06S is one of the most recognisable mobile suits in all of Gundam, and this RG treatment gives it the detail and articulation it deserves at 1/144 scale. The crimson red colour separation, functioning mono-eye, spiked shoulder armour, and full weapons loadout make this the definitive small-scale Char's Zaku II.
The RG MS-06S Char's Zaku II features a fully articulated Real Grade inner frame beneath the iconic crimson armour, with a functioning mono-eye gimmick and the complete Zaku II weapons loadout including Heat Hawk, Zaku Bazooka, and Machine Gun.
This kit is designed for intermediate builders. The RG inner frame provides a fully articulated skeleton beneath the colour-separated crimson armour panels, and the mono-eye slides to track with head movement for an authentic display detail. The snap-fit system means no glue is required, and the deep red colour separation is achieved through moulding without painting. If you're building a One Year War shelf or a Char collection, this is the centrepiece it needs.

Builder Notes
One of the most visually striking early Real Grade kits, and still a fan favourite for Zeon collections. Being RG #02, it carries some of the joint tolerance issues common to the early RG line. None are dealbreakers. Most can be addressed during assembly with simple preventative steps.
Front Skirt Armour Separation (Most Common Issue): The front and side skirt panels connect via small pegs that have very little holding force. They fall free the moment a leg is moved, and repeated separation puts stress on those pegs over time. One builder reported a peg snapping and having to reinforce it with a metal rod. The fix is to apply a thin layer of plastic cement to the skirt connection pegs during assembly and allow it to set completely before posing. This holds the skirts without permanently locking them in place.
Energy Pipes (Torso, Shoulder and Leg Cables): The cable runs are built from individual bead sections threaded onto a soft tube. The torso cable is the hardest section to seat correctly. Take your time here and do not force the connection. Once assembled, a light application of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement at the end joins will stop individual beads from drifting loose over time.
Mono Eye Sticker: The included mono eye sticker is widely criticised as flat and paper-like. It reads as a dull circle rather than the glowing sensor it should represent. The community-preferred fix is to replace it with an aftermarket metallic mono eye sticker from HiQ Parts or a similar supplier, or to paint the socket with a small amount of orange or yellow acrylic before the lens piece is seated. Either option takes five minutes and makes a noticeable difference.
Loose Inner Frame (Early RG Characteristic): As a second-generation RG kit, the inner frame tolerances are looser than later releases in the line. Repeated posing will loosen joints progressively. Apply a thin layer of plastic cement to the most-used ball joints before final assembly and allow it to set completely before reassembling. Nail polish works as an alternative using the same method. A second layer can be added if needed after the kit has been on display for a few months.
Bazooka Clear Part: The clear circular scope section of the bazooka sits loosely and falls free during handling. It is small enough to lose permanently on carpet or a workbench. Fit it last, keep it somewhere safe while building, and consider a small drop of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement to secure it once you are happy with the placement.
Stability Rating: 6/10. The feet provide limited contact area and the loose inner frame means this kit does not stand confidently without support. An Action Base is strongly recommended, particularly for any pose other than a neutral standing position. Once on a stand with the skirt pegs cemented, it displays beautifully and holds indefinitely.
The Fixes: Cement the front skirt pegs during assembly. Cement the energy pipe end joins with Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. Replace the mono eye sticker with an aftermarket metallic option or paint the socket before seating the lens. Treat the most-used inner frame ball joints with plastic cement or nail polish before final assembly. Keep the bazooka clear part safe and cement it last.
