Bandai 1/144 HG 00 Reborns Gundam

Ribbons Almark's own machine

Gundam 00 spends two seasons building up to the man behind everything, and when Ribbons Almark finally takes the field he does it in this. The Reborns Gundam is a variable mobile suit that folds between a flight-capable Gundam Mode and a Cannon Mode built around massed fire, and it is the machine Setsuna meets in the final battle.

Worth being clear about one thing, because the internet gets it wrong: this is not a 00 Gundam variant. It is Ribbons' personal design and it comes from a different lineage entirely.

Build difficulty

Snap-fit, moulded in colour, no glue or paint needed, on polycap joints. The transformation is what lifts this above an ordinary High Grade build, and it also introduces a few quirks in how the arms and waist are put together. Fine for a builder with a few kits behind them; a first-timer would manage it but might find the arm assembly odd.

Technical highlights

Two modes, both properly realised. Gundam Mode is the upright flight-capable form; Cannon Mode is the folded configuration built around the GN Fin Fangs and buster rifle. Weapons are the full final-battle set: a GN Buster Rifle, four large-type GN Fin Fangs, two large-type GN Beam Sabers, and a GN Shield whose sides slide open. Foil stickers are included for detail.

What to watch for

The transformation is the reason to buy this kit and also the source of its compromises, which is a fair trade but worth knowing.

Two separate build reviews land on the same point from different angles. One notes the arms are put together strangely because of the transformation gimmick, and that the waist bends but does not really turn. The other lists seamlines as a con and adds the awkward detail that filling and sealing them would hinder the transformation, so you cannot have both a seamless finish and a working gimmick. Against that, a builder six kits into the hobby reported genuinely enjoying it.

So: a good-looking transforming kit with an odd arm assembly, a restricted waist, and visible seams you have to live with if you want it to fold.

Builder tips: decide upfront whether you care more about a clean finish or a working transformation, because you cannot fully have both. If you are displaying it permanently in one mode, you can fill the seams for that mode and accept the kit stops folding. Work the arms slowly the first time, since the assembly is not intuitive. A stand helps a lot in Cannon Mode.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
