Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai HG 1/144 Sugai's Gelgoog - GQuuuuuuX Series

Sugai's Gelgoog (GQ), the white, red and yellow Gelgoog from GQuuuuuuX

This is the Gelgoog flown by Shiiko Sugai, the pilot nicknamed the Witch, in clan battles in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Bandai released the HG kit in May 2025 in the colours seen in the series, with a lead wire and a special hand part to recreate her Stigma wire attack.

It is a straightforward, quick build with a distinctive silhouette, and a good starting point for a GQuuuuuuX shelf.

Build difficulty

Skill Level 2. Bandai rates it 8+. One detailed Japanese review describes it as polycap-less with KPS joints and a low part count that goes together quickly, and recommends it for everyone. There is a single marking sticker for the witch emblem on the left shoulder, and no foil stickers.

Technical highlights

The upper body is built as a block structure that moves front, back and sideways. The shoulder bases move, the upper arms roll, and the arm armour rolls on 3mm connections. The backpack thrusters move independently on ball joints, and the thrusters on the back of the thighs move up and down. The toes move, the soles are not hollowed out, and the sole has a 3mm hole for a display stand. The beam rifles and beam saber can be held in either hand. The beam saber can take a blade at either end of the hilt. The head's green part is a separate part, not clear.

What makes this kit special

  • Stigma attack parts: a lead wire and a left-hand part recreate the wire attack.
  • Flexible rear thrusters: the backpack and thigh thrusters move independently for dynamic poses.
  • Colour separation: white, red and yellow are moulded in, with the green head part separate.
  • Two beam rifles and a beam saber: they can be held in either hand, or mounted on the rear skirt.
  • Double-ended saber: the beam blade can attach to the top or bottom of the hilt.

What's in the box

  • Sugai's Gelgoog (GQ) parts on moulded-colour runners (polycap-less)
  • Two beam rifles
  • Beam saber hilt with two beam blades
  • Hand parts, including a left-hand part for the Stigma attack
  • Lead wire
  • Marking sticker (witch emblem)
  • Instruction manual

Compatible accessories

No display base is included. The sole has a 3mm stand hole, so it works with Bandai's Action Bases. In stock now: the Bandai Action Base 2 (made for 1/144 kits), the Bandai Action Base 1 (universal) and the compact Bandai Action Base 5. The Bandai Action Base 7 (Clear) GQuuuuuuX Sticker Set is a clear stand that comes with GQuuuuuuX stickers.

What to watch for

Drawing on one detailed Japanese review and an r/Gunpla builder's note:

  • Backpack thrusters: the red backpack thruster parts are two halves that leave seam lines, and one r/Gunpla builder called the back thrusters "a bit finicky" while rating it a solid HG.
  • A few missing colours: the head vulcan, side armour and parts of the backpack lack colour, so paint is optional but worth it for those spots.
  • Hip root is fixed: the hip roots are fixed, with the waist side parts moving up and down.
  • One open hand: the kit includes an open palm for the left hand only.

Build notes

No glue or paint is required. Nippers are needed to remove parts from the runners. Recommended age: 8 and over.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide which kits are Fan Favourites?

By how fast they sell while they're on the shelf, using our daily stock records back to August 2023. A kit has to have sold out at least once and sold at least five units at its normal price. Sales during big discount events don't count, and recent sales count for more than old ones.

How is this different from your Best Sellers?

Best Sellers ranks by total units sold, so Action Bases and whatever we've held the most of rise to the top. Fan Favourites ranks by speed and only includes Gundam kits. A kit that sold every unit we had within days can rank above one that sold more over a much longer time.

Is everything on this page in stock?

Yes. A kit drops off this page when it sells out and comes back when we restock. Many have only one or two left, so one can sell in the time you're looking at it. Your cart and checkout always go by what's actually available. Order before 2pm AEST, Monday to Friday, for same-day dispatch from Brisbane.

What if the kit I wanted has sold out?

Head to the kit's own product page and use the Notify Me button to get an email when it's back. We can't promise when, or if, a particular kit will return, because that depends on what's available from Japan and our suppliers.

Are these kits good for a first build?

Many are. The HG kits are 1/144 scale, snap together without glue, and are moulded in colour so paint is optional. A pair of nippers is the main tool you need. RG and MG kits have more parts and take longer, but plenty of people start there too if they love the suit. Check the Skill Level on each product page to see how involved the build is.
