Bandai 1/144 HGBD Gundam Jiyan Altron

Bandai HGBD 1/144 Gundam Jiyan Altron

The HGBD 1/144 Gundam Jiyan Altron is a custom Gunpla from Gundam Build Divers, built around the Altron Gundam frame from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and reimagined with distinctive wolf and tiger-themed shoulder parts that give it a completely unique character. In the GBN world of Build Divers, Jiyan Altron is a custom build that honours the original Altron's design language while pushing it into new territory with the animal-themed armament. The result is one of the more visually striking HGBD kits in the lineup.

The HGBD Gundam Jiyan Altron features wolf and tiger-themed shoulder parts that extend like the original Altron's twin trident arms and can also detach and attach to the hands as close-combat weapons.

This kit is designed for beginner to intermediate builders. The snap-fit system means no glue is required, and the colour separation across the custom livery is achieved through part moulding without painting. The extendable shoulder weapon gimmick gives you strong posing options, and the animal-themed parts add a level of visual personality that makes this kit stand out on the shelf alongside other Build Divers customs.

What Makes This Kit Special

  • Wolf and Tiger Shoulder Parts: Distinctive animal-themed shoulder armament that defines the Jiyan Altron's visual identity and sets it apart from the original Altron design.
  • Extendable Shoulder Weapons: The shoulder parts extend outward like the original Altron's twin trident arms for reach-advantage combat poses.
  • Hand-Mountable Weapons: The shoulder parts can detach and attach directly to the hands as close-combat weapons for additional posing configurations.
  • Altron Frame Base: Built on the Altron Gundam's design language from Gundam Wing, giving it a recognisable silhouette with a fresh Build Divers custom identity.
  • Excellent Colour Separation: Custom livery achieved through part moulding throughout, minimal painting required.
  • Snap-Fit Assembly: No glue required. Beginner-friendly build with clean part separation.
  • HGBD Grade Engineering: High Grade Build Divers engineering tailored to the GBN custom Gunpla aesthetic.

Builder Notes

The Jiyan Altron is one of the more visually distinctive kits in the Build Divers line. Tigerwolf's custom Altron brings heavy dragon-and-tiger-themed shoulder armour that makes it a real shelf presence, and the double-jointed elbows and knees give it better articulation than the original HGAC Altron it was derived from. There are a few things worth knowing going in.

Tiger Head and Shield Sticker Reliance (Most Common Long-Term Issue): The tiger head on the left shoulder and the Jiyan Shield are almost entirely dependent on the included foil sticker sheet for their colour separation. Straight-built without painting, the tiger head detail and shield face come out as flat, single-colour surfaces. The stickers are fine initially, but the curved and recessed surfaces they need to wrap around are not sticker-friendly. Edges lift within a few weeks. The fix is to paint these areas during the build. A Gundam orange marker handles the tiger stripe accents well enough for a clean tabletop finish. For the shield tiger face, a mix of Gundam markers and thin acrylic panel wash brings out the moulded detail without the peeling risk. Apply a coat of Mr. Hobby Mr. Super Clear Gloss to any stickers you do use to help seal the edges down.

Leg Joint Looseness: The Jiyan Altron uses joint geometry inherited from the original Altron's transformation-intended engineering, and the knees in particular have a slightly unusual geometry that several builders have flagged as looser than a typical HG. Combined with the hip ball joints, this means the legs can drift under the weight of the shoulder weapon assemblies over time. Address both the knee and hip peg joints during the build. Apply a thin layer of plastic cement to each peg and allow it to set completely before reassembling. A second layer can be added if the joint is still not holding. Nail polish works as an alternative using the same method.

Twin Jiyan Hang Weight and Posing: The shoulder weapons are substantial pieces and they shift the kit's centre of gravity forward and outward when deployed. The extension gimmick is a parts-swap rather than a folding mechanism, so there is no compact storage configuration. With both weapons deployed, the kit struggles to hold dynamic poses without support. An Action Base 4 is the right call for any display beyond a relaxed standing pose. The weapons can also be hand-held using the included joint parts, which actually improves stability by distributing the weight closer to the kit's centre.

No Beam Trident: The kit does not include the beam trident associated with the Altron lineage. The weapon loadout is the Jiyan Shield and the Twin Jiyan Hangs only. If you want the classic Altron appearance, you will need to source or modify a trident separately. This is a kit design choice, not an assembly issue, but worth knowing before you buy.

Head Crest and V-Fin: The head crest on the Jiyan Altron is one of the highlights of the kit. The moulded detail is sharp for a 2018 HG release. The V-fin tips are fine and can be stressed during nub removal. Use sharp side cutters and cut the gate away from the part rather than toward it. The two-stage nub removal method (cut at the gate first, then clean up with a second cut or a sharp blade) gives you the best result here.

Stability Rating: 6/10. The leg looseness combined with the heavy shoulder weapons makes this a moderate challenge on the shelf. A neutral or relaxed standing pose is achievable without support, but anything dynamic will need an Action Base 4 to hold reliably. Once the joints are treated during the build, the kit sits well in its preferred standing position.

The Fixes: Paint the tiger head armour and Jiyan Shield detail instead of relying on stickers. Seal any stickers you do use with Mr. Hobby Mr. Super Clear Gloss. Treat the knee and hip pegs with plastic cement during assembly before the looseness sets in. Use an Action Base 4 for any pose with the Twin Jiyan Hangs deployed.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
