Bandai 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam

Bandai 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam

The Bandai 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam is the Master Grade kit of Shinn Asuka's iconic ZGMF-X42S from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, built on a fully articulated inner frame with a transforming wing unit that opens and closes. This is the kit that defined the Cosmic Era's most dramatic mobile suit, and it brings that presence directly into your collection at 1/100 scale. If you've been waiting for the right version of the Destiny to display, this is it.

This kit is designed for intermediate builders and stands approximately 18 cm tall when complete. The MG Destiny Gundam includes in-scale unpainted figures of Shinn Asuka and Stella Loussier, along with a custom display stand included in the box.

The engineering here is classic Master Grade — a detailed inner frame with improved joint tolerances for a wider range of dynamic posing, combined with the Destiny's full weapon loadout. It's best suited to builders who've completed a few MG kits before and are comfortable with small parts and inner frame assembly. The colour separation is solid throughout, meaning you can achieve a great result without paint, though panel lining will really bring out the detail.

What Makes This Kit Special

  • Transforming Wing Unit: The Wings of Light binder units open and close, capturing the Destiny's signature high-mobility silhouette.
  • Full Inner Frame: Classic MG inner frame construction with improved joint tolerances for dynamic posing and long-term display stability.
  • Complete Weapon Loadout: Includes the Destiny's full arsenal — Beam Rifle, Beam Sabers, Hyper Mega Cannon, Anti-Ship Sword, and Palm Beam Cannons.
  • In-Scale Pilot Figures: Unpainted 1/100 scale figures of Shinn Asuka (sitting and standing) and Stella Loussier included.
  • Custom Display Stand Included: A dedicated display stand is included in the box — no separate purchase required for basic display.
  • Marking Stickers: Foil stickers and original design marking stickers included for added surface detail without an airbrush.
  • Excellent Colour Separation: Pre-coloured runners deliver the Destiny's red, white, and gold colour scheme with minimal paint required.
  • Iconic SEED Destiny Design: Faithfully recreates the ZGMF-X42S as it appears in the anime, including the distinctive silhouette of the extended wings.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different grades of Gunpla, and how do they differ?

Q: What are the different grades of Gunpla, and how do they differ? A: Gunpla kits come in various grades, including Entry Grade (EG formally FG) High Grade (HG), Master Grade (MG), Perfect Grade (PG), Real Grade (RG), and Super Deformed (SD). Each grade varies in size, complexity, articulation, and detail, with PG being the most detailed and largest among standard models, while SDs are chibi-style representations of Gundam mobile suits.

How do I start with Gunpla building if I'm a beginner?

Start with an EG, HG or SD kit, as they are simpler and require minimal tools. Alternatively choose one of Gundam Express Australia's customised beginner boxes. Ensure you have a pair of plastic nippers and, optionally, a hobby knife and fine grit sandpaper. Follow the instruction manual, cut parts carefully from the runners, and piece them together. Over time, you can advance to more intricate models and detailing techniques.

Do I need to paint my Gunpla?

Painting is optional. Kits come pre-coloured, so painting is primarily for those who want to customize or achieve a specific look. If you decide to paint, acrylic or enamel hobby paints are recommended, along with proper priming.

How can I make my Gunpla look even more realistic?

Techniques like panel lining, using decals, weathering, and top-coating can enhance the realism of a kit. Panel lining emphasizes details, decals add logos and warnings, weathering gives a battle-worn look, and top-coating seals everything with a matte or glossy finish.

Are there limited edition or rare Gunpla kits?

Yes, Bandai regularly releases limited edition, event-exclusive, or special coating versions of kits. These can be more challenging to find and might be pricier than standard releases. Collectors often seek these kits for their uniqueness. Common names included:- P-Bandai (premium Bandai), Gundam Base Limited, and Event Limited
