The Gundam that turned up to ruin everyone's plan

Halfway through Gundam 00's first season, Celestial Being discovers it is not the only organisation with Gundams. Team Trinity arrive with three of them and no interest in anyone's ideology. The GNW-001 Gundam Throne Eins is Johann Trinity's, the eldest brother's machine, and it is built around one idea: hit things from very far away with something enormous.

Black, heavy-looking, and carrying a launcher that measures 27 cm when it is deployed. On a 1/144 shelf that is a genuinely absurd silhouette, in the best way.

Build difficulty

A straightforward snap-fit High Grade. Sharply moulded in colour, polycap joints, fully articulated once built, and no glue or paint needed. Builders describe it as an easy, relaxing build and a nice change of pace from something demanding. Fine as a first or second kit.

Technical highlights

The GN Launcher is the reason to buy this kit. It converts into firing mode and measures 27 cm long when fully deployed, which is longer than the mobile suit is tall. Alongside it you get a GN beam rifle for mid-range work and a GN shield. What to watch for

Balance is the honest trade-off, and it follows directly from the thing that makes the kit worth owning. A build review of this kit puts it plainly: the GN Launcher is a very big weapon that does hinder the balance, while adding that it has a good amount of movement in it and plenty to play with. Hanging 27 cm of launcher off a 1/144 frame was always going to do that.

Set against that, builders consistently describe the assembly itself as easy and relaxing, with one calling it a solid straight build and a nice change of pace. So the build is not the problem, the physics of the launcher is.

Builder tips: use a stand for any pose with the launcher deployed, and support the launcher end rather than relying on the arm joints alone. Nub marks show on black plastic, so a sanding stick pass is worth it. Panel lining should be subtle here, since heavy lines vanish against the dark colour anyway.

Build notes

No glue and no paint required, despite what some older listings for this kit claim. Nippers, a hobby knife and sanding sticks are enough. Expect around an hour and a half. Recommended age 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
