Lockon Stratos never misses
Every Gundam 00 fan has a favourite Meister, and a lot of them pick Lockon. The GN-002 Gundam Dynames is Celestial Being's sniper, built to end a fight from a rooftop three kilometres away rather than wade into one. Green and white, deliberately unshowy, and carrying a rifle longer than its own legs.
This is the 2007 High Grade, and nearly twenty years on it is still the kit people name when they talk about the best sniper Gunpla.
Build difficulty
A straightforward snap-fit High Grade. Moulded in colour, no glue or paint required, low part count, and polycap joints throughout. Comfortable for a first or second build. The one thing worth budgeting time for is nub cleanup, since builders consistently mention the green plastic showing marks more than most.
Technical highlights
The GN Sniper Rifle is the centrepiece and it is properly thought through. It sets up on tripod support for a stable firing pose, and when you are not using it, it stows on the right shoulder armour. The yellow head antenna slides down to reveal the gun camera underneath, which is the detail that sells the sniper role. The GN shields fold to the front for guard mode. Foil stickers are included for detail work.
What makes this kit special
-
Tripod-supported GN Sniper Rifle: deploys on a tripod for a stable, in-character sniping stance rather than just being held.
-
Sliding gun camera: the yellow head antenna slides down to reveal the precision targeting camera underneath.
-
Rifle stows on the shoulder: mount the sniper rifle on the right shoulder armour when it is not deployed.
-
Foldable GN shields: swing forward into front guard mode for a defensive display.
-
Polycap articulation: plenty of joints, and a kit builders repeatedly describe as solid rather than floppy.

Compatible accessories
No display base is included with the kit. To get the Dynames up into a raised sniping pose rather than a flat-footed one, pair it with the Bandai Action Base 2, the standard 1/144 display stand.

What to watch for
The reputation here is genuinely good, and it comes from separate builder discussions rather than one thread. One builder calls it the most solid kit they have ever built regardless of grade, saying nothing pops off and it poses perfectly. Another rates it the best sniper-type kit available while noting the articulation is a little lacking against the newest releases, though not bad at all.
The one consistent caveat is finishing work. A third discussion recommends expecting to clean parts up and colour some details in, and not expecting it to pull off the most extreme poses. That is fair for a 2007 kit and none of it is a fault.
Builder tips: take extra care with nub marks, since the green plastic shows them. Panel lining and a few hand-coloured details lift this kit more than most, because the base colour separation is fairly plain. Set the sniper rifle up on its tripod at least once, it is the pose the whole kit was designed around.
Build notes
No glue and no paint required. Nippers, a hobby knife and sanding sticks, plus a fine marker or panel liner if you want to pick out details. Expect around an hour and a half. Recommended age 15 and over.
