Bandai 1/144 HG 00 Cherudim Gundam GNHW/R

Everything Lockon could carry into the last fight

The GNHW/R designation means heavy weapons, and near the end of Gundam 00's second season that is exactly what Lockon Stratos needed. The Cherudim was already Celestial Being's long-range specialist. This configuration bolts on extra pistols, a full set of GN Rifle Bits and nine detachable GN Shield Bits, and turns a sniper into something closer to a mobile weapons platform.

On a shelf it is one of the busiest, most heavily equipped High Grades in the whole 00 line.

Build difficulty

Snap-fit and moulded in colour, with no glue or paint required, so nothing about the technique is hard. What makes this one longer than a typical High Grade is sheer volume: nine shield bits, six rifle bits and four pistols all need building and fitting. One builder reported around eight hours taking their time. Best for someone who has a few kits behind them and enjoys a fiddly accessory set.

The bits are the whole story. All nine GN Shield Bits are removable and attach to an included clear stand to form the defensive shield array from the show, which is a genuinely impressive display piece in its own right. Alongside them you get six large-type GN Rifle Bits, four GN Pistol IIs, the GN Sniper Rifle II and a HoloScreen. Foil stickers are supplied for detail.

Compatible accessories

What to watch for

Two things come up consistently, and both follow from the same cause, which is that this kit is carrying a lot of hardware.

First, the bits are loose. A detailed build review notes that some of them literally just sit in their slot and can fall off with a single touch. Second, standing is a problem: a separate review says the Cherudim has some difficulty staying on its feet given its bulk with the rifle and shield bits attached. A third builder, who spent around eight hours on it, still called it a solid build despite the smaller issues, which is a fair overall verdict.

None of that makes it a bad kit. It does mean you should expect to fuss with it rather than snap it together and forget about it.

Builder tips: handle it over the desk rather than over the carpet, because a dropped shield bit is very hard to find. If a bit will not stay put, a tiny amount of poster putty in the slot holds it without damaging anything. Use the clear stand for the shield array as its own display, since that formation is the best thing this kit does. Keep the bits sorted into groups as you build, they look alike.

Build notes

No glue and no paint required. Nippers, a hobby knife, sanding sticks and tweezers for the many small parts. Budget several hours given the number of bits. Recommended age 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
