Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/100 MG GN-X

The suit that finally matched a Gundam

For most of Gundam 00's first season the Union, Human Reform League and AEU are outclassed and they know it. The GN-X is the answer: the world's first mass-production mobile suit built around genuine GN Drive Tau technology, reverse-engineered in the wake of Celestial Being's intervention. It is not a Gundam, but for the first time a mass-production unit can actually fight one.

This is the Master Grade, and it puts the technology of the Exia's hex-binder frame into a suit meant to be built by the hundred.

Build difficulty

A genuine Master Grade with a detailed inner mechanical frame. Snap-fit, moulded in colour, no glue or paint required. Builders describe some nub locations as tricky to clean up, so take it slowly rather than rushing the runners. Best suited to someone who has finished a Master Grade or two.

Technical highlights

The GN Drive Tau is accurately recreated and the whole frame was specifically engineered to accommodate the GN-X's unorthodox proportions while keeping standard MG range of motion and stability. The cockpit hatch opens onto a detailed interior, and unpainted 1/100 figures of Sergei Smirnov and Soma Peries are both included. Armaments cover the full mass-production loadout: GN Beam Rifle, GN Long Barrel Beam Rifle, GN Beam Saber, and GN Shield.

What makes this kit special

  • Accurately recreated GN Drive Tau: the reverse-engineered technology that let mass production finally catch up to a Gundam.
  • Purpose-built frame for the hex-binder proportions: engineered specifically to keep MG range of motion despite the GN-X's unusual silhouette.
  • Opening cockpit with detailed interior: a genuine hatch reveal, not a moulded-shut panel.
  • Two included pilot figures: Sergei Smirnov and Soma Peries, both unpainted 1/100 scale.
  • Long barrel beam rifle option: a second rifle configuration alongside the standard GN Beam Rifle.

What's in the box

  • GN-X parts, moulded in colour
  • GN Beam Rifle
  • GN Long Barrel Beam Rifle
  • GN Beam Saber
  • GN Shield
  • Unpainted 1/100 Sergei Smirnov and Soma Peries figures
  • Foil stickers, tetron stickers and marking decals
  • Instruction manual

Compatible accessories

No display base is included with the kit, and builders report the legs alone are not confident holding the full weight in a free pose. Pair it with the Bandai Action Base 4, the standard 1/100 display stand.

Build your Gundam 00 collection

The Gundam it was built to counter is a natural pairing. The Bandai MG 1/100 00 Raiser and the Bandai 1/100 MG 00 Qan[T] are both in stock at the same scale.

At 1/144, the Bandai 1/144 HG00 QAN[T] (Quanta) is also available.

What to watch for

Two things come up consistently in builder discussion. The first is weight balance: the legs are the recurring concern, and more than one builder notes the kit needs a stand if you want it in anything but a plain standing pose, since leaning it too far in any direction risks a fall. The second is joint durability, with weak joints reported specifically at the binders and feet after repeated posing.

Neither is described as a dealbreaker. One detailed review calls it a kit that combines fun and challenge in one package and says the trickier nub locations reward patience rather than punishing it.

Builder tips: use a stand for anything beyond a neutral standing pose, especially with the shield or long barrel rifle attached. Take the runners slowly during cleanup, since a few nub locations are awkward to reach with standard nippers. If a binder or foot joint loosens with handling, a thin coat of clear nail polish on the peg, left to dry fully, restores the friction.

Build notes

No glue and no paint required. Nippers, a hobby knife and sanding sticks. Expect three to four hours. Recommended age 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.3. Basic modeling skills are essential. These kits are not recommended for beginners or children due to the high level of complexity of assembly and the sheer volume of parts. Experience in building more complex Gunpla models is recommended. Parental supervision is essential. A full set of hobby tools is recommended that includes, nippers, hobby knives, sandpaper, sanding sticks, files, buffing files, glues, tweezers, and decal adhesive/softener. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
