Bandai 1/144 HGUC MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki Revive

The Bandai 1/144 High Grade Universal Century MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki Revive is Quattro Bajeena's gold-coated mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, completely redesigned with modern engineering. This HGUC Revive release captures the Hyaku-Shiki's distinctive gold finish with enhanced articulation, improved proportions, and the clay bazooka weapon system. It's the definitive 1/144 scale version of the Gryps Conflict's most iconic gold mobile suit.

This kit includes approximately 250 parts and features snap-fit construction with no glue required. The HGUC Revive engineering is designed for beginner to intermediate builders.

The build centres on the updated inner frame that provides significantly improved articulation compared to the original 2003 HGUC release. You get the beam rifle, clay bazooka, two beam sabers, and shield. The colour separation delivers the Hyaku-Shiki's gold, white, and red scheme with gold-plated parts for authentic metallic finish without painting. The engineering features polycap-free joints that maintain tight articulation and refined proportions that match modern animation references. The kit includes multiple eye sticker options for different expressions and effect parts for the beam sabers.

Known Build Considerations

The Hyaku-Shiki Revive is a solid kit with excellent articulation, but there are a few things worth knowing before you build. Most of these have simple fixes, and being aware of them upfront will save you frustration later.

The Mid-Section Pop (Most Common Issue): Similar to the Ground Type Gundam, the torso-to-waist connection is notorious. The ball joint inside the chest often lacks friction, causing the top half of the mobile suit to pop off or lean backward when the heavy clay bazooka is mounted on the backpack. This is the most commonly reported issue. The fix is straightforward: apply a layer of super glue or clear coat to the torso ball joint and let it dry completely before assembly. This will prevent the top-half pop and make the kit much more stable.

Loose Wing Binders: Over time, the heavy binders on the back tend to sag. The joint is a simple peg-into-socket that doesn't hold vertical tension well after a few months of display. A small piece of plastic wrap (Glad wrap) or a tiny dab of blu-tack inside the binder socket will provide the necessary friction to keep the wings from sagging. This is a simple fix that makes a huge difference for long-term display.

The "Curry Gold" Colour: Most builders find the out-of-box gold colour (often called "Curry Gold") to be the biggest aesthetic weakness. It's more yellow-gold than the rich metallic gold seen in the anime. The good news is that since the kit is heavily undergated, it's the perfect candidate for a gold marker or spray-can repaint. The nub marks will be hidden under the armour, making it easy to achieve a premium metallic finish.

Beam Saber Hilts (Part C2 11): The hilts are moulded in a way that makes them feel slightly brittle. Builders frequently report stress marks or snapping when trying to fit the beam effects in or clipping them into the rear skirt armour. Be gentle when inserting the beam effects and don't force anything. If the fit is too tight, sand the peg slightly before inserting.

Backpack Binder Clips (C-Clips): The wings attach via small clips. If these are pulled off and on repeatedly, the plastic will wear down quickly, leading to floppy wing syndrome. Pick your display configuration and stick with it rather than constantly removing and reattaching the binders.

Shoulder Slide Joint: The Revive engineering uses a sliding mechanism for the shoulders. If you force the arm up without ensuring the slide is fully engaged, you can shear the internal track. Let the slide mechanism do its job and don't force the arm upward if it's not moving smoothly.

Forearm Seams: There's a persistent gap issue in the forearms. Even with a perfect snap-fit, the two halves tend to separate slightly near the wrist when you rotate the hands to hold the beam rifle. This is a minor cosmetic issue that can be addressed with a bit of plastic cement if it bothers you, but it's part of the engineering trade-off for wrist articulation.

Stability Rating: 8.5/10. The kit has excellent feet with large surface area, making it very hard to tip over despite the backpack weight. Once you've tightened the torso joint and addressed the binder sag, this is a stable, great-posing kit.

The Fixes: Torso tightening is mandatory. Apply super glue or clear coat to the torso ball joint before assembly. For the binders, use plastic wrap or blu-tack inside the socket for friction. If you want a more anime-accurate gold, consider a gold marker or spray paint over the plated parts.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
