The 2025 Osaka World Expo's official Gunpla release was a special Entry Grade RX-78F00/E Gundam, paired with a separate optional parts set called Glass Feather that converts the same body into a crystalline display variant. This bundle puts both kits in one box, takes 15 percent off the combined Bandai RRP, and ships with a free grey Bandai Action Base 1 so you have a stand the moment the kits arrive.

The EXPO releases are limited run. Once this stock sells through, the next time the RX-78F00/E will be available in this configuration is uncertain.

How the build works

Build the standard EG RX-78F00/E using the body kit. To switch to Glass Feather configuration, swap the standard armour parts for the translucent Glass Feather equivalents and add the beam-welding gun and backpack. The two configurations are alternates, not simultaneous. You can rebuild between them as often as you want, but you display one form at a time.

Both kits are snap-fit, no glue, no paint, no nub clean-up on the visible surfaces (undergate moulding). The Action Base 1 likewise snaps together in a minute.

What to watch for

The two configurations are alternates, not simultaneous. To display both at once you need two of the bundle, or you swap armour parts each time you rotate the display. Most builders pick a primary configuration and treat the alternate parts as a backup loadout.

Glass Feather translucent parts show nub marks more clearly than solid plastic. The undergate moulding hides most of them, but a hobby knife and a quick scrape on each visible parting line keeps the clear finish clean.

The bundle includes a Bandai Action Base 1 in Grey. If you have a colour preference for the stand (black, white, or clear), the Action Base 1 standalone listing carries the colour options. The grey is the most neutral default and works under both standard and Glass Feather configurations.

Build notes

A pair of plastic nippers is helpful but not strictly required because of the undergate moulding. A hobby knife handles any minor parting-line tidy-up on the clear Glass Feather parts.

Build time: approximately 90 minutes for the EG body, an additional 30 to 45 minutes to swap to Glass Feather configuration, plus a minute for the Action Base.

Recommended age: 8 years and over (per Bandai).

Assembly Guide

No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
