Before he became the strongest weapon Earth had, Shinjiro Hayata's first fight in the ULTRAMAN suit was in Suit A. Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's manga reimagined Ultraman as hard science fiction, a fighting suit built by a covert agency rather than a giant hero from another planet, and Suit A is where that story starts. This 1/12 Figure-rise Standard kit recreates that original suit, straight off the manga page.
It's built for ULTRAMAN manga and anime fans who want the character's origin point on the shelf, and for Figure-rise builders who like a kit with genuine lighting and effect parts rather than a straight snap-together figure.
Build difficulty
This is a Skill Level 2 kit. Basic modelling skills are expected: you'll be using nippers to cut parts from nine runners and cleaning up the odd gate mark, but no glue is needed for the general assembly. Bandai's extra-finish silver and glossy red plastics do the colour work for you, so there's no painting required to get an accurate result. Budget a solid session at the bench for the figure itself, more again if you want to take your time fitting the LED unit and the gauntlet weapons. It's a fair step up from a snap-fit Entry Grade, but a confident beginner who's built one kit before shouldn't have any trouble.
Technical highlights
The standout feature is the LED unit, which lights up the S.S.C. Generator in the chest and the eyes, the same detail from the manga and anime. Suit A's colour separation comes from Bandai's extra-finish process rather than paint: the body is moulded in an extra-finish silver, with glossy red parts recreating the suit's finish and texture. Articulation covers the usual points for the line (shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles), enough to hit the character's signature poses, though it's the standard Figure-rise Standard range rather than the newer -ACTION- specification found on some later kits in the lineup. Two original gauntlet weapon parts and a Vertical Guillotine effect part, both designed by Eiichi Shimizu specifically for the model kit line, round out the loadout, along with a beam generator effect part for ranged poses.

Compatible accessories

We couldn't confirm specific branded accessory compatibility against Bandai's own documentation for this kit, so we're not going to guess. What to watch for
Articulation is the standard Figure-rise Standard range, not the newer -ACTION- specification used on some later kits in the lineup. Builders coming from -ACTION- spec kits or more modern HG Gundam kits have flagged the joints as more limited by comparison, so go in expecting a solid figure rather than the widest range of motion in the line. As with most Figure-rise kits, the small effect parts and stickers are fiddly, so work over a tray so nothing goes missing.
Builder tips: test-fit the LED unit and check your battery before you commit to final assembly, since it's much easier to sort out wiring before the shell is closed up. Have a fresh battery on hand, since one isn't included in the box. Take your time with the marking stickers and use tweezers for the smaller ones.
Build notes
No glue is needed for the general assembly, though some builders like a dab of cement on the smaller joints for a more secure long-term pose. A basic hobby toolkit covers it: nippers, a hobby knife, sanding sticks or a file, and tweezers for the stickers. The kit needs a battery for the LED unit, which isn't included, so grab one before build day. Recommended for ages 15 and up, in line with the rest of the Figure-rise Standard Ultraman lineup. Budget a full evening at the bench if you want to do the stickers and LED wiring properly rather than rushing it.
