Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/144 HG Shin Burning Gundam

The divine successor to the Burning Gundam, loaded with effect parts

The Shin Burning Gundam is the star machine of Gundam Build Metaverse, carrying the fighting-spirit lineage of the Burning Gundam into a brand new HG. The 神 (Shin, meaning god or divine) reading is stamped right on the shoulder, and the kit backs it up with a full loadout of dynamic effect parts built for action poses straight out of the box.

Build difficulty

This is a Skill Level 2 build on the Mecha Express scale. Snap-fit, no glue and no paint needed to reach a sharp result. The core assembly is well within reach of a newer builder who has finished one or two HGs, and the payoff is a striking red, white and blue mobile suit with plenty of colour separation done in the plastic. The effect parts add display options rather than difficulty. Expect a relaxed few hours on the bench.

Technical highlights

The headline feature is the cloak effect part moulded in special polarised resin. It shifts colour as the viewing angle changes, giving the Master Gundam-inspired energy cape a genuine shimmer without a drop of paint. Articulation is strong across the shoulders, hips and knees, so the kit holds the aggressive martial-arts stances the design is built around. Colour separation is handled through moulded parts across most of the frame, with stickers filling the finer accents.

What makes this kit special

  • Polarised colour-change cloak. The energy cape effect part is moulded in a special resin that changes colour with the angle you view it from.
  • Full effect-part loadout. Flame effect parts for the Burning Punch and Burning Kick, plus a sword effect part, let you pose the signature attacks straight away.
  • Long sword and scabbard. A dedicated melee weapon with a scabbard that mounts on the rear waist.
  • Three sets of interchangeable hands. Swap between fists, open hands and weapon-holding grips for the pose you want.
  • Snap-fit construction. No glue or paint required to reach a presentable finish.

What's in the box

  • Runners for the HG 1/144 Shin Burning Gundam
  • Cloak effect part in polarised colour-change resin
  • Flame effect parts for the Burning Punch and Burning Kick

Compatible accessories

As a standard 1/144 HG, the Shin Burning Gundam works with the usual Gunpla display gear. A separately sold action base with a 1/144 adaptor lets you get the flame-effect kick and punch poses airborne, and a Gunpla marker set sharpens the panel lines on the bright red armour. These are sold separately and are not included in the box.

What to watch for

Drawing on builder reviews and community threads (r/Gunpla, YouTube build reviews):

  • Some ball joints can pop out during posing. Builders have reported the shoulder, waist, chest and head joints working loose when pushed into more dynamic stances. Ease it into poses rather than forcing it, and a little joint-tightening helps if yours feel loose.
  • A couple of the effect parts fit tight. The shoulder blade effect parts have been noted as a snug fit that may need a light shave to seat cleanly.
  • Nub marks show on the bright red and clear parts. The glossy red armour and the polarised cloak part make gate marks easy to spot, so take your time with sharp nippers and a knife.

Build notes

No glue required, this is a snap-fit kit. A basic Gunpla tool kit (sharp side cutters or nippers, a hobby knife for clean-up and a panel line marker) is recommended though not essential. Recommended age 8 and over. No batteries required.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
