Bandai 1/12 Figure-rise Standard Ultraman (B Type) (Limiter Release Ver.)

Ultraman with a light-up core, the anime suit in 1/12

This is the Figure-rise Standard Ultraman (B Type) Limiter Release Ver., the powered suit from the modern ULTRAMAN anime built as a 1/12 snap-fit kit. The headline is the LED unit in the chest, which lights up the Specium Core, and the red-and-gold Limiter Release colouring that sets this version apart. It comes loaded with effect parts so you can stage Ultraman's signature attacks straight out of the box.

Build difficulty

It is a snap-fit kit moulded in colour, so no glue and no paint are needed to build it. The LED unit and the effect parts add a little more to the build than a plain figure kit, but nothing a patient newer builder can't handle. Note the LED runs on two LR41 button-cell batteries, which are not included. A pair of nippers is the main tool worth having. Recommended age 15 and up.

Technical highlights

The LED sits behind the Specium Core and gives the chest a genuine glow. Articulation is wide across the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, so the dynamic poses from the show are on the table. The kit is moulded in the red-and-gold Limiter Release colours, and the included Figure-rise Effect base holds the aerial and action poses. The effect parts cover the full Specium arsenal plus the Mars 133 Kai sidearm.

What makes this kit special

  • Light-up Specium Core: an LED unit in the chest lights the core (takes two LR41 batteries, not included).
  • Full Specium arsenal: Specium Ray, two Specium Slash effects, and two Specium Blade parts.
  • Mars 133 Kai sidearm: Shinjiro's original weapon from the anime is included.
  • Limiter Release colours: moulded in the distinctive red-and-gold scheme.
  • Effect base included: the Figure-rise Effect base holds the aerial action poses.

What to watch for

We haven't found a body of independent builder reviews for this specific kit, so we can't pass on verified fit-and-finish feedback. Two honest notes: the LED needs two LR41 batteries that aren't in the box, so grab a set if you want it lit on arrival, and the effect parts and swap hands move with a gentle hand. No cement is needed at any point.

Builder tip: the Specium Core glow reads best in a dimmer spot, so a shelf out of direct light shows the LED off nicely.

Build notes

No cement or paint required, this is a snap-fit kit moulded in colour. The LED takes two LR41 batteries (not included). Foil and marking stickers handle the fine detail. A pair of nippers is the main tool worth having. Recommended age 15 and up.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are the Figure-rise model kits made of, and are they durable?

The Figure-rise model kits are primarily made of high-quality plastic, specifically designed for model assembly. They're pretty durable once assembled, but like any model kit, they can be fragile if mishandled. It's always advisable to handle with care, especially when dealing with intricate parts.

How challenging are these kits to assemble? Do I need prior experience with model building?

Figure-rise kits vary in complexity, with some being more beginner-friendly and others catering to seasoned model builders. Each kit includes detailed instructions to guide users. While having prior experience can be helpful, many enthusiasts find the kits approachable even as beginners. It's all about the journey of building!

Do I need to paint the Figure-rise models, or do they come pre-coloured?

One of the great things about Figure-rise kits is that the pieces come pre-coloured, so painting isn't necessary. However, if you wish to customise or enhance details, you can definitely use model paints to do so.

How long does it typically take to assemble a Figure-rise model?

The assembly time can vary based on the complexity of the model and the builder's experience. Some might take a few hours, while more intricate kits might require several days of work if approached leisurely. It's less about speed and more about enjoying the building process!
