Bandai Figure-rise Standard Avatar Fumina

Avatar Fumina, the Gundam Build Metaverse figure kit

Figure-rise Standard Avatar Fumina is Bandai's character figure kit of Fumina, the Avatar Fumina seen in the Gundam Build series' 10th anniversary video, Gundam Build Metaverse. She is an injection-plastic figure, not a mobile suit, and she comes with her armour on or off.

Two bang parts let you pick her look from either Gundam Build Metaverse or Gundam Build Fighters Try, and three tampo-printed face parts mean the expressions are printed on, not stickers to apply.

Build difficulty

Bandai lists the kit at 15+ on its site and it is snap-fit with no glue. Parts come on runners, so a pair of nippers and a little nub clean-up are part of the build, in line with Skill Level 2. Bandai's page gives no part count or build time, so none is claimed here.

Technical highlights

  • Tampo-printed faces: three face parts, printed by Bandai.
  • Two bang parts: one set from Gundam Build Metaverse and one from Gundam Build Fighters Try.
  • Removable armour: she can be displayed with the armour parts removed.
  • Expressive hands: hand parts include rifle-gripping hands.
  • Figure-rise Standard articulation: Bandai describes supple posing as the line's strength.

What makes this kit special

  • Printed expressions: three tampo-printed faces, including a smiling open-mouth face and a pouting one, per the official photos.
  • Two eras of Fumina: swap the bangs to match Build Metaverse or Build Fighters Try.
  • Armour on or off: the yellow armour parts come off to show the navy and white bodysuit underneath.
  • Cat-ear headset: a distinctive part of the Avatar design, visible in every official photo.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are the Figure-rise model kits made of, and are they durable?

The Figure-rise model kits are primarily made of high-quality plastic, specifically designed for model assembly. They're pretty durable once assembled, but like any model kit, they can be fragile if mishandled. It's always advisable to handle with care, especially when dealing with intricate parts.

How challenging are these kits to assemble? Do I need prior experience with model building?

Figure-rise kits vary in complexity, with some being more beginner-friendly and others catering to seasoned model builders. Each kit includes detailed instructions to guide users. While having prior experience can be helpful, many enthusiasts find the kits approachable even as beginners. It's all about the journey of building!

Do I need to paint the Figure-rise models, or do they come pre-coloured?

One of the great things about Figure-rise kits is that the pieces come pre-coloured, so painting isn't necessary. However, if you wish to customise or enhance details, you can definitely use model paints to do so.

How long does it typically take to assemble a Figure-rise model?

The assembly time can vary based on the complexity of the model and the builder's experience. Some might take a few hours, while more intricate kits might require several days of work if approached leisurely. It's less about speed and more about enjoying the building process!
