The ZGMF-X20A Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam is Kira Yamato's mobile suit for the endgame of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the evolution of the Strike Freedom built for one last fight. This 1/144 High Grade release brings the gold-accented design, the SEED Action System articulation, and the Futsunomitama sword to the shelf in a snap-fit build.

Build difficulty

This is a High Grade kit rated beginner to intermediate, roughly 300 parts, snap-fit with no cement required. A first-time builder can work through it in an afternoon, and the SEED Action System's extra joints mean there's a little more going on at the hips and shoulders than a standard HG, worth taking slowly the first time through.

Technical highlights

The SEED Action System is the internal joint structure Bandai built specifically for this kit, with hip joints that swing further than a typical HG for genuinely dynamic poses. What to watch for

The backpack and wing assembly are sizeable for an HG, and a couple of independent build write-ups note the wings can be a bit of a handful to reposition once the kit is fully assembled, which tracks with any kit carrying a large backpack. It settles down once you've built confidence with the joints. No structural or fit issues were flagged in the reviews checked for this kit.

Builder tip: support the wings from underneath while you're adjusting their spread, rather than pulling on the feather tips directly.

Build notes

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
