Maria's prototype Gear, from the roots of the M Project
Sebzen (romanised in Japan as Siebzehn) is Maria's Gear from Xenogears, the first prototype to come out of the M Project's human-machine fusion research. Square Enix brings it into the Structure Arts Plus line, sitting alongside the standard Structure Arts Vol.1 to Vol.3 releases already familiar to Xenogears collectors.
This one's for Xenogears players who know exactly where Sebzen fits in the story, and for Structure Arts collectors building out the full Gear lineup on the shelf.
Build difficulty
Sebzen is a 206-part kit, distinctly more involved than a beginner HG-style build. It's rated intermediate to advanced: expect several assembly stages working through the frame, armour panels, and both sets of interchangeable hands, with a build time longer than a simple snap-fit kit. If you've built a few kits already and want more parts to work through, this is a reasonable next step up. If you're brand new to the hobby, it's not the easiest place to start, but it's not out of reach either with a bit of patience.
Technical highlights
The kit is moulded in Sebzen's in-game colours, so parts carry their colour straight off the runner and painting is optional rather than needed to get the intended look. It's a 1/144 scale plastic kit built from ABS and PS. Square Enix includes two interchangeable sets of hands so you can switch up the pose, plus a dedicated display base with connecting parts for posing out combat stances from the game.
What makes this kit special
-
Genuine Xenogears history: Sebzen is the first Gear built under the M Project, the human-machine fusion research the whole story eventually turns on.
-
Colour-moulded parts: the plastic is moulded in Sebzen's in-game colours, so the kit reads correctly without needing to paint it.
-
Two sets of interchangeable hands: swap between hand types for different poses on the shelf.
-
Dedicated display base included: Square Enix ships Sebzen with its own connecting base, so you're not sourcing a stand separately.
-
206-part build: a step up in scale and detail from a simple snap-fit kit, for builders who want more to work through.
-
Structure Arts Plus line: sits alongside the standard Structure Arts Vol.1 to Vol.3 releases, extending the Gear lineup for Xenogears collectors.
What's in the box
- Sebzen runner set, colour-moulded (206 parts total)

Compatible kits

What to watch for
We haven't found independent builder reviews for this specific kit yet, so we can't point to confirmed build issues the way we can on a well-reviewed HG or MG gunpla. Treat the following as general handling notes rather than confirmed weak points. With 206 parts across the frame and armour, take your time separating pieces from the runners so you don't stress the smaller connector points. If any joints feel tight when swapping between the two hand sets, work them gently rather than forcing them.
Builder tips: a basic tool set (nippers, hobby knife, tweezers) makes clean-up easier on a part count this size. If you plan to panel-line the mechanical detail, test your marker or wash on a spare runner tab first, since we haven't confirmed how the moulded plastic takes to it.
Build notes
This one goes together as a snap-fit kit like the rest of the Structure Arts Plus line, so you shouldn't need glue for the core build, worth double-checking the instruction manual when it lands just to be sure. Nippers are the main tool you'll want for clean part removal. With 206 parts, budget more time than you would for a simple HG, closer to an evening's build than a quick afternoon one.
