Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Square Enix 1/144 Xenogears Structure Arts Plastic Model Kit Series Vol.1 All 4 Types Box

Four Gears, one Xenogears party

Weltall, Vierge, Heimdal, and Brigander are the four Gears that carry Fei, Ellie, Citan, and Balto through Xenogears, one of the most talked-about JRPGs of the PlayStation era. Square Enix's Structure Arts line turns all four into 1/144 scale plastic kits, packaged together in this Vol.1 box.

It's built for two kinds of buyer: the Xenogears fan who wants the core party lined up on a shelf, and the kit collector working through the Structure Arts range one volume at a time.

Build difficulty

Rated Skill Level 2 across the set. Snap-fit assembly, no cement required, and every Gear is moulded in its finished colours so nothing needs paint to look right. Individually, Weltall (99 parts), Heimdal (87 parts), Vierge (84 parts), and Brigander (84 parts) sit around the complexity of a straightforward High Grade Gundam kit. Building all four in one go is the real commitment, four separate instruction manuals and 354 parts in total, so budget more time than a single-kit build rather than treating this as one quick project.

Technical highlights

Each Gear carries its own point of articulation and its own accessory set rather than a shared parts pool. Weltall comes with three interchangeable hands, Vierge with two hand sets and two weapons, Heimdal with two hand sets and a sword, and Brigander with one hand set, four rods, and a replacement feather decoration. Colour separation is handled through the moulded plastic, so the finished Gears hold their designs without needing a brush. A dedicated display base is included for each of the four Gears.

What makes this set special

  • All four core-party Gears in one box: Weltall, Vierge, Heimdal, and Brigander together, rather than buying four separate releases.
  • Snap-fit assembly: no cement needed for any of the four kits, for a cleaner build start to finish.
  • Colour-separated parts: each Gear is moulded in its finished colours, so no paint is needed for a display-ready result.
  • Individual accessory sets: interchangeable hands, dedicated weapons, and character-specific extras for each Gear rather than a generic shared kit.
  • Matching 1/144 scale: all four Gears display together at a consistent scale.
  • Dedicated display base per Gear: all four come with their own stand, no separate purchase needed to pose them.

What to watch for

Four separate kits in one box means four sets of small parts, hands, weapons, rods, and a feather piece, so it's easy to mix up which hand set or weapon belongs to which Gear partway through a build session. As a reissued, lower-volume import line, availability outside Japan is inconsistent, so treat this as a set to plan around rather than one to grab on impulse.

Builder tip: lay out each Gear's parts on its own tray or container before starting, and finish one Gear fully before opening the next. It keeps 354 parts from turning into one confusing pile.

Build notes

Snap-fit assembly across all four Gears, no cement required. A pair of sprue nippers is recommended for clean part removal, and a hobby knife helps tidy up any nub marks on visible surfaces. No paint is required for a finished look, since all four Gears use colour-separated parts. Plan on roughly 4 to 6 hours total to build all four Gears, depending on experience, spread across more than one sitting if that suits better.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Gears are included in the Xenogears Structure Arts Vol.1 box?

Vol.1 contains all four playable-party Gears from Xenogears: Weltall (Fei's Gear, 99 parts), Vierge (Ellie's Gear, 84 parts), Heimdal (Citan's Gear, 87 parts), and Brigander (Balto's Gear, 84 parts). Each is its own individually boxed kit inside the outer case.

Do the Weltall, Vierge, Heimdal, and Brigander kits need glue or paint?

No. All four Gears are snap-fit with colour-separated parts, so no cement is required for assembly and no paint is needed for a finished look straight off the runners.

What accessories come with each Gear?

Weltall includes three interchangeable hands and a display base. Vierge includes two hand sets, two weapons, and a base. Heimdal includes two hand sets, a sword, and a base. Brigander includes one hand set, four rods, a replacement feather decoration, and a base.

What skill level is this box set rated?

Skill Level 2. Basic modelling tools help (nippers, hobby knife, sanding stick) but no glue is needed for the general build. Each Gear is comparable in complexity to a straightforward High Grade Gundam kit, and since the set includes four separate builds, factor in more total build time than a single kit.

How does Vol.1 differ from Vol.2 and Vol.3 in the Structure Arts line?

Vol.1 covers Weltall, Vierge, Heimdal, and Brigander, the core party Gears. Vol.2 and Vol.3 expand the range with other Gears from later in the story. Check the Build Your Xenogears Collection section for what Mecha Express currently has in stock.
