Goku done right, with the best articulation Figure-rise has ever had
This is the New Spec Son Goku, the kit that kicked off Bandai's retooled run of the Figure-rise Standard line. It is built on the Muscle Build System PLUS, a ground-up reengineering of the frame that follows the flow of the muscles and gives Goku the widest range of motion the line has ever managed. Neck, chest, waist and wrists all move further than the older Goku kits, so the poses you have in your head actually come out on the shelf.
Build difficulty
It is a snap-fit kit, moulded in colour, with no glue or paint needed to finish it. The parts come off the runners and press together, and the colour separation does the work for you straight out of the box. There are small parts, face swaps and a marking sticker sheet, so it asks a little more care than a basic snap kit, but it is well within reach of a newer builder who takes their time. Recommended age 15 and up. A pair of nippers for clean runner removal is the one tool worth having.
Technical highlights
The headline is the articulation. The Muscle Build System PLUS lets Goku hold deep fighting stances, a two-handed Kamehameha, mid-air kicks and everything in between without the joints fighting you. Five face parts cover the range from calm to full shout, and the interchangeable hands cover fists, open palms and the poses in between. A display stand is included so you can get him airborne. The whole thing is moulded in colour, so a straight build already looks like the character.

What to watch for
Reviews of this kit skew positive, easy to build, well articulated, and it looks the part with minimal effort. The main thing to note is the same as any snap-fit figure kit: the smaller swivel joints are fine in normal posing, but move them with a gentle hand rather than forcing them, especially when swapping hands and faces.
Builder tip: a little panel lining on the gi folds and boots sharpens the detail nicely, and the marking stickers seat cleaner if you trim close and take your time.
Build notes
No cement or paint required. A pair of nippers is the main tool worth having, plus a hobby knife for tidying gate marks. Moulded in colour with a marking sticker sheet for the finer detail. Recommended age 15 and up.
