Mafty's mass-production answer to a Federation that outguns them everywhere else
The Me02R-F01 Messer Type-F01 is the mainline mass-production mobile suit fielded by Hathaway Noa's Mafty insurgency in Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, built by Anaheim Electronics on the same production line as the old Neo Zeon Geara Doga and Sazabi. That heritage shows: the rounded armour, mono-eye sensor and spiked shoulder crest are straight out of the Zeon design book, updated for a guerrilla war three decades later. Where Mafty's Xi Gundam is the one-off flagship, the Messer is the suit that actually holds the line, the grunt unit standing between the Earth Federation's Penelope and the rest of Hathaway's forces.
This is the standard Type-F01 line configuration, not a commander or clear variant, so it's the version that shows up in numbers whenever Mafty scrambles.
Build difficulty
Skill Level 2, snap-fit, no cement needed for the general assembly. Suits beginner to intermediate builders. Genuine build accounts describe generous part separation and an interesting build sequence for a kit at this level, with one thing worth knowing before you start: the long shoulder spikes need a careful trim to avoid stress marks where they meet the curved armour. Budget an evening for the build.
Technical highlights
A moveable gimmick inside the fuselage plus a slide gimmick in the side armour give the Messer more leg range than its stocky proportions suggest. Colour separation across the salmon-red and tan armour is clean out of the box, with gold trim accents at the knees and waist needing no paint to read correctly. The mono-eye sensor is poseable, with cowl access at the top of the head for anyone who wants to detail it further. Beam sabers stow inside the shield for a cleaner combat silhouette.
What Makes This Kit Special
-
Genuine Mafty mass-production unit: not a repaint or recolour, the Type-F01 is Mafty's actual frontline grunt suit from Hathaway's Flash, built on Anaheim Electronics' Neo Zeon-derived production line.
-
Zeon design heritage on a UC-era frame: rounded armour, mono-eye and spiked shoulder crest give it a silhouette that stands apart from the Federation's boxier late-UC suits.
-
Poseable mono-eye: the head cowl opens for sensor detailing, a nice touch on a mass-production kit.
-
Full weapons loadout: beam rifle, shield and twin beam sabers, with saber storage built into the shield.
-
Clean colour separation: the salmon-red, tan and gold scheme reads correctly straight off the runners.
-
Snap-fit assembly: no glue required, suited to newer builders working through their first few HG kits.
-
Shelf companion to Xi Gundam: the natural mass-production support piece for anyone building out Mafty's side of the Hathaway's Flash conflict.

What to Watch For
A genuine build write-up (Gunplanerd, plus a review on Mechabay) flags the same area twice: the joint arms for the back skirts can wobble, and repeated removal of the backpack can loosen the torso joint over time. Reinforcing the joint peg with a thin layer of clear topcoat, or nail polish as an alternative, and letting it set fully before reassembling is the usual fix. Nub placement lands on curved surfaces in a few spots, so check part orientation before cutting rather than rushing it. The beam rifle's stock colour doesn't fully match the on-screen design; leaving it as-is is a reasonable call for a shelf build, but painting is the only way to correct it fully.
Builder Tips: Panel line the recessed vents on the chest and thighs to lift the surface detail, and take your time with the pipe stickers, pressing each section flush as you go rather than applying the whole sticker at once.
Build Notes
Snap-fit assembly, no glue required for the standard build. Minimal paint needed thanks to clean colour separation. A basic tool set (nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks, tweezers) covers everything this kit needs. Action Base sold separately. Suitable for beginner to intermediate builders, roughly an evening's build.
