Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/144 HG Plutine Gundam

A Core Docking Custom machine with a scythe that becomes a lance

The Plutine Gundam is one of the standout builds from Gundam Build Metaverse, built on the Core Docking Custom system. The Core Gundam II+ sits at the heart of the suit and slots into the Pluto Armour, giving you a striking purple, black and white mobile suit with a winged binder array and a signature transforming weapon.

Build difficulty

This is a Skill Level 2 build on the Mecha Express scale. Snap-fit, no glue and no paint required. The core assembly is approachable for a newer builder, while the Core Docking gimmick and the winged binders add a bit more part count and a few more steps than a basic HG. Expect a relaxed couple of sessions on the bench for a clean result.

Technical highlights

The Core Docking Custom system is the engineering hook. The Core Gundam II+ separates from the Pluto Armour, and because it shares the Core Docking standard you can mix and match it with other Core Docking Custom kits to build your own combinations. The signature weapon transforms between a scythe and a lance, and some of the armour parts are moulded from recycled eco-plastic. Translucent accents on the chest and joints add depth without paint.

What makes this kit special

  • Core Docking Custom compatibility. The Core Gundam II+ separates from the Pluto Armour and swaps with other Core Docking Custom kits for your own builds.
  • Transforming scythe and lance. The main weapon shifts between a sweeping scythe and a thrusting lance.
  • Winged binder array. The white winged binders give the suit a wide, aggressive silhouette on the shelf.
  • Recycled eco-plastic parts. Some armour parts are moulded from recycled material.
  • Snap-fit construction. No glue or paint required to reach a presentable finish.

What's in the box

  • Runners for the HG 1/144 Plutine Gundam (Core Gundam II+ and Pluto Armour)
  • Core Defender
  • Scythe (transforms to lance)
  • Core spray gun
  • 2 x beam sabers with 2 x core saber effect parts
  • Interchangeable hand parts
  • Support base for the armour mode

Compatible accessories

As a Core Docking Custom kit, the Plutine Gundam's Core Gundam II+ works with other Core Docking Custom items from the Gundam Build line, so you can swap armour sets across kits. For display, a separately sold action base with a 1/144 adaptor helps with the winged-binder action poses, and a Gunpla marker set sharpens the panel lines. These are sold separately and are not included in the box.

What to watch for

Drawing on builder reviews and community threads (r/Gunpla, hobby groups):

  • Joint strength is the main gripe. Several builders describe the joints as weak for the weight the kit carries, especially with the winged binders and armour deployed. It holds fine for display, but heavier action poses benefit from a base and, if needed, a little joint-tightening.
  • Fit is a bit of a mixed bag. A few builders reported minor fit niggles during assembly, though they were described as easy to clean up rather than dealbreakers.
  • A base helps for dynamic poses. With the full binder array deployed the kit is top-heavy. A base is sold separately.

Build notes

No glue required, this is a snap-fit kit. A basic Gunpla tool kit (sharp side cutters or nippers, a hobby knife for clean-up and a panel line marker) is recommended though not essential. Recommended age 8 and over. No batteries required.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HG 1/144 Plutine Gundam?

It's a High Grade 1/144 snap-fit kit of the Plutine Gundam from Gundam Build Metaverse. It's built on the Core Docking Custom system, so the Core Gundam II+ separates from the Pluto Armour and can be combined with other Core Docking Custom kits.

What is Core Docking Custom?

Core Docking Custom is a Gundam Build system where a small Core Gundam docks inside a larger armour set. On the Plutine Gundam, the Core Gundam II+ slots into the Pluto Armour, and because the docking standard is shared, you can swap it into other Core Docking Custom kits to build your own combinations.

What weapons and accessories are included?

The main weapon is a scythe that transforms into a lance. The kit also includes a Core Defender, a Core spray gun, two beam sabers with two core saber effect parts, interchangeable hands, and a support base for the armour mode.

Does it need paint or glue?

No. It's a snap-fit kit with colour separation moulded into the parts, so a straight build looks accurate to the box art. Some armour parts are moulded from recycled eco-plastic. Panel lining and a topcoat are optional.

Is it suitable for a newer builder?

Yes. The core build is Skill Level 2, snap-fit and beginner-friendly. The Core Docking gimmick and the winged binders add a little more part count, so give yourself a bit more time than a basic HG, but nothing here is beyond a second or third kit.
