The Graze Custom, known in Japan as the Graze Kai, is Tekkadan's field-upgraded take on the captured Gjallarhorn Graze. Once Tekkadan started pulling parts and know-how together after the early clashes with Gjallarhorn, this is the kind of hybrid unit that came out of it: heavier armour, a bigger axe, and a paint job that has nothing to do with the original owner.

It's a solid pick if you're building out the Tekkadan side of Iron-Blooded Orphans and want a unit that shows the faction's scrappy, patched-together engineering rather than a factory-fresh Gjallarhorn machine.

Build difficulty

This is an intermediate build. Snap-fit assembly, no glue required, with a part count and level of detail typical of the HGIBO range. Nippers are worth having on hand for clean part removal from the runners.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who pilots the Graze Custom (Kai), and why does it look so different from a standard Graze?

This is a Tekkadan field upgrade rather than one pilot's personal machine. After early clashes with Gjallarhorn, Tekkadan started reworking captured and damaged Graze units with reinforced armour and a new paint job, and this kit represents that hybrid result: heavier plating, a bigger axe, and a green scheme that has nothing to do with the original Gjallarhorn owner.

Do I need to paint it to get the green Tekkadan look?

No. The kit is moulded in two shades of green plus grey, white and black, so the colour separation is handled straight off the runners. Painting is optional if you want to add extra detail, but it's not required for a clean finish.

How difficult is this build compared to other HGIBO kits?

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
