The Gundam Amazing Barbatos Lupus is a custom machine from Gundam Build Metaverse, built by the third Meijin Kawaguchi. It takes the aggressive Barbatos Lupus silhouette and pushes it further with a separating booster, claw-tipped wing binders and a combining mace, all rendered in a bold red and white scheme moulded straight into the plastic.

Build difficulty

This is a Skill Level 2 build on the Mecha Express scale. Snap-fit, no glue and no paint required. The core assembly is approachable for a newer builder, and the booster, claws and combining weapon add a bit more part count and a couple of gimmick steps rather than any real difficulty. Expect a relaxed few hours on the bench for a clean result.

Technical highlights

The booster is the engineering hook. It separates from and recombines with the body, and it joins with the mace to form a combined weapon. The claws detach from the booster to mount on the arms, with an expand-and-rotate gimmick. What to watch for

Drawing on builder reviews and community threads (r/Gunpla, MechaGrade, YouTube reviews):

  • The inner torso and spine frame can feel fragile. Builders consistently flag the central frame as a weak point, so take care around the waist and spine when posing.
  • Joint strength is only average. General joint tension isn't the kit's strong suit, and the payoff is really in the gimmicks rather than tight articulation. The included base helps the more dynamic stances.
  • Colour separation is hit or miss. Some panels rely on stickers rather than moulded colour, so panel lining or a little paint sharpens the accuracy if you want it.

Build notes

No glue required, this is a snap-fit kit. A basic Gunpla tool kit (sharp side cutters or nippers, a hobby knife for clean-up and a panel line marker) is recommended though not essential. Recommended age 8 and over. No batteries required.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
