Bandai 1/144 HG Bolinoak Sammahn (Zeta Gundam)
The Jupitris recon suit, in a modern HG with a lit-up monoeye
The PMX-002 Bolinoak Sammahn is one of Zeta Gundam's more unusual designs, a Jupitris-built prototype developed as a seek-and-destroy unit packed with surveillance gear. This 2024 HG captures its bulky, insectile silhouette in deep green, right down to the oversized shoulder sensor binders and the clawed manipulators, and it adds a clear head part so the monoeye can be lit.
Build difficulty
This is a Skill Level 2 build on the Mecha Express scale. Snap-fit, no glue and no paint required. It's a modern mould with a refreshing structure and moulded colour separation, so it goes together cleanly and reads accurately straight from the box. A satisfying build for a newer or experienced builder.
Technical highlights
The head is moulded in clear so the monoeye can glow, and the large shoulder binders and clawed arms give the suit its distinctive recon-unit look. Colour separation is handled through moulded parts across the two-tone green and dark grey scheme, with red accents on the thrusters and stickers filling the finer markings. Articulation is solid despite the bulk.
What makes this kit special
-
Clear illuminated head. The head part is moulded in clear so the monoeye can be lit with a separately sold LED unit.
-
Oversized sensor binders. The signature shoulder pods that mark it as a surveillance and seek-and-destroy unit.
-
Clawed manipulators. The distinctive gripper hands and shield-claw of the design.
-
Beam saber effect part. Included to pose its melee attack.
-
Snap-fit construction. No glue or paint required to reach a presentable finish.

What to watch for
Drawing on builder reviews and a Mecha Express buyer's own review (r/Gundam, YouTube reviews):
-
It's a solid, sturdy build with few faults reported. A Melbourne buyer called it a very nice, solid and sturdy build, and reviewers describe the unusual internal structure as a refreshing change of pace. Not a problem kit.
-
To light the monoeye you need an LED. The head is moulded clear for illumination, but the LED unit that lights it is sold separately.
-
The design is polarising. This is one of Zeta's more unconventional suits, so it's a love-it-or-not silhouette rather than a classic Gundam look. Worth knowing if you haven't seen it in the show.
Build notes
No glue required, this is a snap-fit kit. A basic Gunpla tool kit (sharp side cutters or nippers, a hobby knife for clean-up and a panel line marker) is recommended though not essential. Recommended age 8 and over. An LED unit for the head is optional and sold separately.
