Master Asia's unarmed martial artist, wrapped in the Master Cloth and channelling the glowing Master Cross through eight interchangeable hands. Comes as two kits: Master Gundam plus a fully posable Fuunsaiki mount. Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/144 HGFC Master Gundam & Fuunsaiki

The martial artist who needs no weapon

Master Asia doesn't carry a beam rifle. He doesn't need one. Master Gundam fights entirely hand to hand, wrapped in the Master Cloth and channelling the Master Cross through its glowing hands, and it is one of the most distinctive silhouettes in the whole G Gundam cast. This HGFC set pairs him with Fuunsaiki, the mechanical steed he rides into the tournament arena.

This is the 2011 High Grade Future Century release, and it is a two-kit box.

Build difficulty

Snap-fit, moulded in colour, no glue required. Master Gundam himself builds cleanly and poses well. Fuunsaiki is the simpler of the two, with far less articulation, so budget most of your build time and attention for Master Gundam. A reasonable kit for a beginner-to-intermediate builder.

Technical highlights

Master Gundam switches between Normal and Attack modes and poses in a genuine variety of martial arts stances. Large clear effect parts recreate the glowing hands and the Master Cross technique, the signature visual from the anime. He comes with eight interchangeable hands, including open palms, kung fu-style hands, dark-fingered hands, one oversized dark-fingered hand and a closed fist specifically for holding the Master Cloth. Fuunsaiki is fully posable in its own right and can carry either Master Gundam or a G Gundam-line kit, if you own one to pair it with.

What makes this kit special

  • Master Cross glow effect parts: large clear pieces recreate the signature hand-charge technique from the anime.
  • Eight interchangeable hands: open palms, kung fu hands, dark-fingered hands, one giant dark-fingered hand and a dedicated Master Cloth grip.
  • Normal and Attack mode posing: genuine stance changes rather than a single fixed silhouette.
  • Fuunsaiki included as a full second kit: a posable mechanical steed built to carry Master Gundam.
  • Foil marking stickers: included for both kits.

Compatible accessories

No display base is included with the kit. Fuunsaiki has very limited articulation and cannot stand fully unaided in every pose, so pair it with the Bandai Action Base 2, the standard 1/144 display stand, if you want it displayed off its own four legs.

What to watch for

Two specific things came up in independent build reviews. On Master Gundam, the hand holding the Master Cloth is the one part not properly secured, and the grip can come apart with routine handling. On Fuunsaiki, articulation is very limited, described in one detailed review as bordering on none, and it effectively works as a mount and stand for Master Gundam rather than a fully posable kit in its own right.

Neither is a fault with your specific box, both are consistent characteristics of the kit reported independently. Master Gundam himself, separate from the Master Cloth hand, is rated highly for articulation and detail.

Builder tips: handle the Master Cloth grip carefully once assembled and avoid repositioning it more than necessary. Don't expect to pose Fuunsaiki dynamically on its own, it is built to carry Master Gundam and looks best in that combined display. Panel lining Master Gundam's white and blue armour brings out detail the moulding alone doesn't show.

Build notes

No glue and no paint required. Nippers, a hobby knife and sanding sticks. Expect two to three hours for both kits combined. Recommended age 15 and over.

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.
