Kamille Bidan's Zeta, built the right way
The MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam is Kamille Bidan's mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam — the transformation centrepiece of the Gryps Conflict and one of the most iconic designs in Universal Century. This Ver.Ka release is Hajime Katoki's take on the design, with proportions drawn from Kazumi Fujita's original character sketches. It transforms fully between Mobile Suit mode and Wave Rider mode without swapping any parts out.
This kit is for builders who want the definitive Zeta Gundam on their shelf. It rewards patience and care. The transformation is the main event and the main challenge.
Build difficulty
Skill Level 3. This is a complex Master Grade with a full transformation mechanism. The build itself assembles in logical phases — legs, waist, torso, arms, wings, weapons — and is well-engineered throughout. Where builders report the most challenge is not during the assembly but during transformation: the chest panels, shoulder hinges, and wing binders involve a sequence that needs to be followed in order. Stress marks can appear on wing binder parts if you force the transformation rather than following the sequence. Budget 10 to 15 hours for a straight build; add more time if you plan to apply the full water slide decal sheet.
Technical highlights
The transformation is full and part-free — no swapping parts between modes. The chest unit, shoulder binders, and legs all fold and reconfigure. Select parts carry a metallic finish that arrives pre-applied from the factory. Colour separation is strong throughout, meaning a straight snap-build reads accurately against the Bandai press photography without paint. The water slide decal sheet, designed by Katoki Hajime, is extensive and adds significant detail to the finished display piece.
What makes this kit special
-
Katoki proportions: based on Kazumi Fujita's original sketches, not the Ver.2.0 interpretation. The silhouette is sharper and closer to the animation model.
-
Part-free transformation: Wave Rider mode is achieved without removing or swapping any parts. Everything folds and locks in place.
-
Factory metallic finish: select parts arrive with a metallic extra finish applied from the factory. No painting required for these accents.
-
Katoki decal sheet: an extensive water slide decal sheet specific to this release. Builder reviews consistently rate the decal quality as a highlight.
-
Strong colour separation: blue, white, and yellow are all moulded in separate parts. A straight build without paint looks sharp.
-
Ver.Ka pedigree: part of Bandai's Master Grade Ver.Ka series, which applies Katoki Hajime's design refinements to landmark Universal Century suits including the Nu Gundam Ver.Ka.

What to watch for
The chest panel assembly involves multiple hinges that feel loose during the build. This is normal — once everything is locked into position the kit sits firmly. Do not try to hold the torso rigid while assembling the chest; let the hinges move freely until the final panels click in.
The transformation sequence matters. If you try to force the Wave Rider transformation without following the sequence in the manual, you risk stress marks on the wing binder parts. Read the manual steps before transforming for the first time. Builders consistently note the joint tolerances are firm once set — components that snap together are not easy to pull apart, which is a stability feature but means you should plan your transformation poses deliberately rather than repeatedly cycling the kit.
The grenade launcher cartridges are moulded in grey polystyrene, which is accurate for some interpretations but not all. Builders who want animation accuracy on this point apply a quick paint pass.
Builder tips: Apply water slide decals before attempting any transformation. The decals add thickness to panel surfaces and can crack if applied after the kit has been flexed through transformation. Top coat before and after decal application for best results. A panel lining pass on the armour before top coat adds significant depth to the finished display piece.
Build notes
No glue required. Standard snap-fit assembly throughout. Tools needed: nippers, hobby knife, sanding stick, tweezers for small parts and decal placement. Build time estimate: 10 to 15 hours for a straight build, additional time for full decal application. Recommended for builders with at least one previous MG build. Bandai recommended age: 15 and over.
